2010`Fall REC (San Francisco)

REC-SF playoff brackets

FRI 11/25 (1:45PM) -- Forgot to mention that in the Losers Bracket, we avoided matching up #4 Mata Mata vs #5 The Other Guys because that matchup has already been played, and doing so if we couldn't help it would render the first meeting useless. Also we feel more confident about switching the matchup because we have a mini-final-four in the Losers Bracket anyways. So, in effect, if you were not the best team out of the four remaining, you would eventually have to beat the best team anyways. Thus, it sort of really doesn't matter how we match it up, this mini-final-four. So we'll skip any matchups that we've already had, that can be initially avoided, which is why we have #3 vs #5 and #4 vs #7 instead of #3 vs #7 (highest vs lowest) and #4 vs #5.

WED 11/24 (11:30PM) -- So we still have 2 more rounds to go, this upcoming 12/5 to determine who gets the advantage in the Winners Bracket, then the Last Losers Bracket Game and Championship on 12/12. If the Winners Bracket survivor should blow the opportunity to clinch the Championship on the first try, then due to the double-elimination format, we would have a Repeat Championship on 12/19.

I'm not sure that we'll even have a gym available on 12/26 or 1/2/2011, so we have to assume 12/19 is the end of the runway, let alone coordinating with teams' availabilities.

At the same time, we have also invited All Show No Go to play in the "Superbowl" against REC-OAK, which will be held in conjunction with the annual SF Gold Rush Tourney on Dec 11-12. During the tourney, teams will only be required to play one game on Sun 12/12, so theoretically All Show would have no more than 2 games on 12/12. Still, they may not want to do that for 12/12, but we'll see.

If they decline the invite by the deadline of next Monday, then it gets complicated. But like everything else in Dream League, we just deal with the hand that's dealt us any given week. Still got some time to figure this thing out. Incidentally, all teams are invited to signup for the tourney, it's just that they wouldn't get the special discount that the invitee gets.

WED 11/17 (3:00PM) -- I have updated the roadmap way below as far as 11/14 and 11/21 to further illustrate the previous post.

WED 11/17 (2:45PM) -- Well it turns out I was a little too ambitious trying to get the 7-team bracket done with a buffer, just in case, before Xmas. Not gonna happen. So instead of trying to figure out how to dwindle 5 teams in the Losers Bracket to just 1 (it's not possible without a potential tripleheader), to be most clear with what's going on I have gone back to the 8-team bracket that you can find prevalent amongst the other divisions this season.

As a result, you can see that we got a little ahead of ourselves this past weekend 11/14. I should have just sat the #1 team. Well, nothing we can do to change the past. What we will need to do is essentially put the bracket to a halt except for the #6 SFFA vs #7 NxLevel game this Sun 11/21. You can see how, in a normal 8-team bracket, Hapa and Mata Mata would be joining later on, as part of a mini-final-four that dwindles the number of LB teams to one, so that one can play against the next loser in the WB, to achieve the double-elim Final Three teams in the last weekend (barring a repeat championship if the survivor of the WB should lose to a LB team).

Anyways, check out the other 8-team brackets this season and sorry for the jam-packed 11/14. Had I known we wouldn't be able to dwindle the Losers Bracket as fast as necessary, obviously I wouldn't have scheduled things the way they were. Now I know.

Remember that Sun 11/28 is Thanksgiving weekend and a league-wide bye. We pick right back up on 12/5. On Sat 12/11 and Sun 12/12 we have our Gold Rush tourney and I am thinking about having you play against equivalent teams from SF and SJ, maybe even somehow combine that with the tournament in case you wanted to play in the tournament too, but that idea is still in development as of this writing.

Btw, All Show vs Soup has the option of being played on 11/21 instead of 12/5. I will assume 12/5 since that is more "normal". Let me know by tonight if otherwise.

BYES: Byes are only allowable
under special circumstances.

If you have a bye later in the season
that is not a formally requested bye,
due to gym fluctuations and other
unforeseen circumstances, that bye is
not locked down; that week's block
of games can still be shuffled around
as necessary until you formally request
that week to be a bye for your team.

GROUND RULES:
1. Please make sure the number of
red rows (games moved from) equals
the number of green rows (games
moved to).
2. Make sure you have 7 regular
season games listed with your
team name.
3. The last 1 or 2 of 7 regular
season games are usually encoded
as inter-conference or other
special type of matchup.
4. The playoffs are pretty much
nailed down, barring unforeseen
circumstances (i.e., no byes!)
5. Any special late bye requests at
this point will require permission
from other teams to shuffle them
around.
6. Special late bye requests can
*usually* be accommodated if your
team plays a double-header some
other week. But sometimes it
depends on if your opponent is
also stuck with a double-header.
