AAA-OAK playoff brackets
WED 8/25 (12:30AM) -- Members Only has been forfeited and fined (to cover the costs of gym time and scorekeepers) via their forfeit bond for playing 3 ineligible players on 8/22. Thus, the Dragons get the forfeit win and will now face ReDream Team in the Last Losers Bracket Game. We are fortunate that the single-elim Oakboyz lost, otherwise it would've gotten complicated and perhaps resulted in further costs to be reimbursed by Members Only. Please note, the Dragons filed the protest, paid the investigation fee, and we were almost immediately able to confirm from our scoresheets that the player were, indeed, ineligible. We have returned the fee to the Dragons.
MON 8/16 (6:30PM) -- My (most reliable) scorekeeper just told me that his guy reversed the score of Hit List vs Oakboyz when texting me the score, so Oakboyz won and replace the schedule and bracket below with Oakboyz, not Hit List. I'm actually not gonna fix the bracket graphic because that's a pain. It will be fixed next week since it's just a snapshot (albeit a pain-in-the-ass-to-produce snapshot) of my Excel spreadsheet.
MON 8/16 (1:45PM) -- Wow, with single-elim Oakboyz and Hitlist winning their opening round games yesterday, they threw the bracket in a tizzy! We now have four teams in the Losers Bracket which will be whittled to one by the end of this upcoming Sun 8/22. Meanwhile Famlossal's #1 seed seems to have helped out as they avoid the dogfight in the dungeon and face Hitlist, which went 1-6 in the regular season. The Oakboyz were eliminated in a thrilling 65-62 overtime loss to Hitlist, which came after a thrilling comeback against the Dragons. Yet, the Dragons remain alive for the time being as they earned double-elim status.
So the Losers Bracket will get re-attached to the Winners Bracket depending on the Famlossal/Hitlist result. If Famlossal loses, then there's another mini-bracket to be inserted. And the way things are going, it appears that even if Famlossal eliminates Hitlist on 8/22, then we could potentially have our Championship and Repeat Championship on 8/29, depending on if the teams that are still alive are planning to be in Vegas 9/12 (if so, then we would try to finish it out asap).
AAA-OAK playoff seedings
TUE 8/10 (12:15AM) -- Here are the playoff seeds heading into 8/15...
In a two-group structure, we go old-school NBA rules and the top team from each of the two conferences gets the #1 and #2 seed. That's why we have the Phenoms with the #2 seed and no need to do a tiebreaker against other 4-3 teams, since Famlossal was the best team at 5-2 from the other conference. That leaves only determining who was better between the Dragons and Members Only for the #3 seed and the head-to-head easily determined that.
- Famlossal (5-2) -- won Western Conf
- Phenoms (4-3) -- won Eastern Conf
- Dragons (4-3) -- won head-to-head vs MemO
- Members Only (4-3) -- lost head-to-head vs Drgn
- ReDream Team (3-3)
- Oakboyz (3-4)
- Hit List (1-6)
That means we have the following matchups for 8/15...
playoffs1: #5 ReDream Team AAA at #4 Members Only
playoffs1: #6 Oakboyz at #3 Dragons
playoffs1: #7 Hit List at #2 Phenoms
playoffs2: Winner-RDA/MemO at #1 Famlossal
playoffs2: Winner-Oakb/Drgn at Winner-HitL/Phen
Now, we are "sort of" playing two rounds in one on 8/15 because this division is behind most of all the other divisions and I'm trying to get it all done by 9/12. Normally, with a 7-team structure we give the #1 seed a bye the first round, but we don't necessarily have to.
I don't like to force doubleheaders on teams, but I "sort of" can in this instance because, at the same time, I shouldn't be forcing teams to take a bye. Famlossal earned the #1 seed and will get "rewarded" by having all the rest of the teams playing doubleheaders.
There is the issue of the Losers Bracket, which will sort of be behind due to not being able to predict which double-elim-status teams will be in the Losers Bracket after the first round, but we will try to catch up the Losers Bracket, which is do-able with doubleheaders as is the norm, in case that happens. With "just" 7 teams, I don't think that will be a problem unless all the double-elim-status teams get upset on 8/15. We'll see.
AAA-OAK season roadmap
TUE 8/3 (11:59PM) -- For 8/8 we have the following matchups based on standings...
Hit List at Dragons
Oakboyz at Phenoms
Famlossal at Members Only
bye: ReDream Team AAA
So, ReDream remains idle. The Phenoms have beaten the Oakboyz, who both have beaten the Dragons, so the Dragons play against Hit List and the Phenoms/Oakboyz go at it again. At the top of the heap, Famlossal will try to avenge a week one overtime loss to Members Only, for the #1 seed and an advantage heading into the first round of the playoffs.
The playoff structure has been altered slightly so that the #1 seed is not forced into a bye in the first round. All the other winners of the first round will need to play a doubleheader that day, thus giving the #1 seed an advantage, when advancing. Teams that did not finish .500 or better in the regular season will be one-and done.
Doing this not only gives the #1 seed an advantage, but also ends our playoffs by the end of August, without any interruption by the Labor Day holiday.
FRI 7/23 (3:30PM) -- See the singular update to the roadmap on the righthand side of the table.
TUE 6/22 (4:30PM) -- We have 7 teams again. It was going to be 8, but Redunkulous turned out to be not qualified for this division. I think we may be one of the only few leagues out there that will move a team out of a division if there's a glaring issue with that. Done that now twice this season.
Anyways, with 7 teams you can't mathematically have all 7 teams play 7 regular season games. The team that will only play 6 regular season games will be ReDream Team. They are scorekeeping for their franchise fees anyways (Deputy Commish Wylie's team).
Luckily one team gets a bye each week. Seems like every team wanted a bye at some point. You'll notice that certain teams have already locked down their byes. That means that group of teams playing along with that team having a bye on any given week, cannot move that block to another week due to the bye team needing that Sunday as a bye.

BYES: Byes are only allowable
under special circumstances.
If you have a bye later in the season
that is not a formally requested bye,
due to gym fluctuations and other
unforeseen circumstances, that bye is
not locked down; that week's block
of games can still be shuffled around
as necessary until you formally request
that week to be a bye for your team.
1. Please make sure the number of
red rows (games moved from) equals

3. The last 1 or 2 of 7 regular

special type of matchup.
4. The playoffs are pretty much
nailed down, barring unforeseen

5. Any special late bye requests at

6. Special late bye requests can

depends on if your opponent is
also stuck with a double-header.
