2010_Summer AAA-6FT (Oakland/SanFrancisco)

Updated 8/25 1:00AM

Welcome to the 6FT-OSF division site. You may click on the SCHEDULE/SCORES, STANDINGS, or PLAYER STATS link in the lefthand navigation panel for the information from this division only.

You may also go back to the 2010 Summer season homepage for all of the league-wide information.

6FT-OSF playoff brackets

TUE 8/25 (1:00AM) -- Team Elite hasn't traveled quite as much as Ballin' and the Swishers have, so the next round of the Losers Bracket will occur in SF. Both Winners Bracket survivors are from Oakland, so we'll stay there for that. Again, we'll try to get the Last Losers Bracket Game and Championship done on 9/5, so that a possible Repeat Championship will occur no later than 9/12...

MON 8/16 (6:00PM) -- The Losers Bracket appears it will have three teams for the next two rounds, which means the higher seed will get to play the winner of the lower seeds. You can see that the survivor of 8/22 Trybe/Blitz/Swishers will be part of another "triad" consisting of the two losers from Sqad vs Elite and Ballin vs Alliance. After that, we'll have the Last Losers Bracket Game and Championship hopefully on 9/5 which leaves room for a possible Repeat Championship on 9/12.

Here are the matchups and locations:

p2-WB: #5 Elite (OAK) at #1 Sqad Up -- IN OAKLAND. Both teams are from Oakland. Easy one.

p2-WB: #6 Alliance at #2 Ballin -- IN SF. Both teams have made two trips to away courts in 8 games. Given that, and the fact that the remainder of the Winners Bracket has two other Oakland teams, I'm putting this game in SF again. That gives Alliance 3 straight trips to SF, although the first one was to Treasure Island, so not all the way. Also, BlitzKrieg has made 3 in a row before, too.

p2a-LB: #7 BlitzKrieg at #4 Trybe -- IN OAKLAND. This was seems obvious at first due to the fact that both teams are from Oakland, but you have to remember that this is a "triad" bracket which involves the Swishers from SF. Since all three teams must be joined at the hip for this scheduling, we look at BlitzKrieg and with three straight trips to an away court, it's time they went home. Trybe still hasn't set foot outside OAK and Swishers have only done so once, but that's almost besides the point (BlitzKrieg being the most importance balancing needed right now).

p2b-LB: Winner-BlzK/Tryb at #3 Swishers -- IN OAKLAND. See above paragraph.

THE GOOD NEWS WITH ALL THIS HOME/AWAY STUFF is that, hopefully from what you saw this past Sunday night at MDLS, the competition in 6FT-OSF is really, really good. Even though Sqad Up (Oakland), Ballin (SF), Alliance (Oakland), and Swishers (SF) seem to be the cream of the crop, BlitzKrieg (Oakland) and Alpha Q (SF) hung in there against their higher-seeded opponents. I hope you will all agree that, in the absence of enough high-quality teams from your area, and as long as the distances are within reason, it's worth it to drive a little further to play against similar high-quality opponents. That is one of the unwritten essences of Dream League that you probably won't find in any other league.

6FT-OSF playoff matchups for 8/15

TUE 8/10 (12:45AM) -- Remember, we had to split up the first round of the playoffs, such that the higher seeds got a bye 8/8, due to the gym problems in SF. As such, we have these matchups on 8/15 and their locations...

playoffs1b: #6 Alliance at #3 Swishers -- PROBABLY IN OAKLAND
playoffs1b: #7 BlitzKrieg at #2 Ballin -- PROBABLY IN SF
playoffs1b: #1 Sqad Up at #9 Alpha Q -- PROBABLY IN SF
byes: #4 Trybe, #5 Elite (OAK) -- BYE BECAUSE THEY PLAYED ON 8/8

Alliance/Swishers will probably be played in Oakland because the home/away count is pretty close and each team has double-elimination status, meaning they should be around for awhile. But the main reason for putting this one in Oakland is because of continued constrained gym time in SF. ISAH is still down with asbestos, I'd like to avoid TIY as a backup as much as possible, and SSFHS has an AAU tournament. So we'll see if there's space in SF for this. Each team has made 7 trips, 1 of them away. The impetus for leaning towards SF, if we didn't have SF gym problems, is that Alliance didn't travel as far as Swishers (TIY from Oakland as compared to TFRC from SF).

BlitzKrieg/Ballin will probably occur in SF because Ballin has guys coming from as far as Marin but more importantly they've made 7 trips to games, of which 2 of them were to Oakland. Meanwhile Blitz has made 8 trips, 2 of which were to SF. Mathematically, Ballin has had more a percentage of its trips to Oakland, but by the slimmest of margins. After Blitz travels again on 8/15, they'll be a better mathematical chance of their next game back in OAK.

Sqad Up will travel to Alpha Q in SF almost for sure, barring severe gym problems. The home/away balancing allows for us and Alpha Q only has single-eliminatation status, compared to Sqad's double-elim which will afford Sqad more opportunities to rebalance the home/away.

Finally, recall that I decided it was best to go ahead and play Trybe/Elite (in OAK) under Murphy's Law (i.e., do the game if the game can be done, the earlier the better). That means they both have a bye on 8/15 as we finish up this first round.

6FT-OSF playoff seedings

WED 8/4 (8:00AM) -- Here are the playoff seeds for the 8/8 matchups...
  1. Sqad Up (6-1) -- tied common opp (3-1) vs Blln (Swsh/Alli/Orcl/EOAK), won strength-of-victory 15.2 vs Blln
  2. Ballin (6-1) -- tied common opp (3-1) vs SqUp (Swsh/Alli/Orcl/EOAK), lost strength-of-victory 12.8 vs SqUp
  3. Swishers (5-2) -- won common opp (3-1) vs Tryb (PDST/SqUp/Alph/EOAK)
  4. Trybe (5-2) -- lost common opp (2-2) vs Swsh (PDST/SqUp/Alph/EOAK)
  5. Elite (OAK) (4-3) -- tied h2h (1-1) vs Alli/BlzK, won common opp (3-0) vs Alli/BlzK (BGmz/SqUp/Tryb)
  6. Alliance (4-3) -- tied h2h (1-1) vs EOAK/BlzK, lost common opp (1-2) vs EOAK (BGmz/SqUp/Tryb), won h2h vs BlzK
  7. BlitzKrieg (4-3) -- tied h2h (1-1) vs EOAK/Alli, lost common opp (1-2) vs EOAK (BGmz/SqUp/Tryb), lost h2h vs Alli
  8. Oracle's Warriors (3-4) -- won head-to-head vs Alph
  9. Alpha Q (3-4) -- lost head-to-head vs Orcl
  10. P.D.S.T. (1-6)
  11. G.P.C. (0-7)
The Big Gamerz failed to pay their forfeit fee, so they are hereby banned from the league indefinitely until league expenditures on that forfeit are reimbursed to the league.

Here are the matchups for 8/8...

playoffs1: #5 Elite (OAK) at #4 Trybe -- IN OAK
playoffs1a: #6 Alliance at #11 GPC -- IN SF
playoffs1b: Winner-Alli/GPC at #3 Swishers -- IN SF
playoffs1a: #7 BlitzKrieg at #10 PDST -- IN SF
playoffs1b: Winner-BlzK/PDST at #2 Ballin -- IN SF
playoffs1a: #9 Alpha Q at #8 Oracle's Warriors -- IN SF
playoffs1b: #1 Sqad Up at Winner-Alph/Orcl -- IN SF

As we balance the home/away, please keep in mind that I'm not only balancing as we tally the home/aways, but also when it's a really close call, such as with Sqad Up, I'll err towards the side of knowing that Sqad Up will probably be in the playoffs for the long haul, whereas Alpha and Oracle's could be a flash in the pan, as the odds have it. That's why I'll start off Alpha/Oracle's at home, for example.

6FT-OSF season roadmap

FRI 7/30 (12:30PM) -- Things are really complicated this week when setting up the matchups by standings. Here were the issues...
  • Do back-to-backs in SF involving Ballin vs Elite (OAK) due to the abrupt gas leak gym closure at BCRC on 7/18.
  • Avoid repeating the same matchups from 7/18. For example in my first draft I had Alpha Q vs Trybe for 8/1 but that was already matched on 7/18.
  • Implement the makeup game for Ballin vs PDST.
  • Skip Ballin and Alliance in the standings when matching up for 8/1 due to the shuffling of games previously.
  • Make sure Trybe is in Oakland because their captain is out of town and unable to provide transportation. This will be taken into consideration when we do home-away matchups for playoffs. With the math involved, if I had to guess, this means Trybe will likely play in SF to start their playoffs, should they be matched against an SF team.
FRI 7/23 (3:30PM) -- Last Sun 7/18, BCRC was presented with a potential gas leak, at which the gym director told people to immediately vacate the premises and maybe he said it too strongly, because the players from the game that was interrupted all went home. So, to finish up that game (Ballin at Elite), we will need to pickup where we left off. The most fair way to do this is to just play the game from that point on, coming up in SF when all the OAK teams visit. Thus, the traveling situation is still the same. I'll probably try to put these two teams back-to-back. Anyways, we'll figure it out soon enough.

FRI 7/9 (8:30AM) -- 7/18 and 7/25 games swapped, with the cross-conference matchups changed to be OAK at home, due to...
  • Alliance wanting a bye on 7/18. They can have the bye if Alliance vs Oracle's Warriors is cancelled or moved from 7/18 to another date.
  • Trybe didn't want two games on 8/1. They will now have two games on 7/25.
  • This also results in PDST having a doubleheader on 8/1, due to their bye request for 6/20.
I am now checking with Oracle's and Alliance to see what they want to do about that 7/18 matchup.

TUE 6/22 (4:45PM) -- Oracle's Warriors (fka Octavious) came in at the last second and gave us a nice 12-team division with 6 teams each in SF and OAK. Prior to that, I had polled all the captains and, of the ones who responded, there was a clear majority to keep most of the regular season in each geography. But now that we have 6 teams each, that makes it even easier.

The first 5 games will be against the other 5 teams in your area or conference. The 6th and 7th regular season games will be played against your opposite rival in the standings, SF at OAK then OAK at SF, or vice versa depending on gym availability. When all is said and done with the regular season, each team will have played 6 games at home and 1 away.

For the playoffs then, I would probably give the homecourt nod to the LOWER-SEEDED team in the opening round only. Why? Because the lower-seeded team is more likely to get bounced, whereas the higher-seeded team has a few more games remaining to re-balance the home/away traveling.

Incidentally, the only bye request I'm having trouble with is Alliance's request for 7/18. I may just cancel the game, since Alliance is paying via scorekeeping and Oracle's joined late. If I do cut them to 6 regular season games, I will give them each a pro-rated refund/credit.

BYES: Byes are only allowable
under special circumstances.

If you have a bye later in the season
that is not a formally requested bye,
due to gym fluctuations and other
unforeseen circumstances, that bye is
not locked down; that week's block
of games can still be shuffled around
as necessary until you formally request
that week to be a bye for your team.

GROUND RULES:
1. Please make sure the number of
red rows (games moved from) equals
the number of green rows (games
moved to).
2. Make sure you have 7 regular
season games listed with your
team name.
3. The last 1 or 2 of 7 regular
season games are usually encoded
as inter-conference or other
special type of matchup.
4. The playoffs are pretty much
nailed down, barring unforeseen
circumstances (i.e., no byes!)
5. Any special late bye requests at
this point will require permission
from other teams to shuffle them
around.
6. Special late bye requests can
*usually* be accommodated if your
team plays a double-header some
other week. But sometimes it
depends on if your opponent is
also stuck with a double-header.
