2010_Summer .REC (Oakland-AM)

Updated 8/25 2:30AM

Welcome to the REC-AM (OAK) division site. You may click on the SCHEDULE/SCORES, STANDINGS, or PLAYER STATS link in the lefthand navigation panel for the information from this division only.

You may also go back to the 2010 Summer season homepage for all of the league-wide information.

SQ REC wins lower REC-AM Oakland championship!

WED 8/25 (2:30AM) -- Congrats to SQ REC for winning the Lower REC-AM Oakland championship! They defeated Huff And Puff, 62-50 on Sun 8/22. If there's a team picture they would like me to post, please email me.

REC-AM (OAK) playoff brackets

WED 8/25 (2:30AM) -- In the Upper Bracket, we're down to our Final Three. If there's a Repeat Championship necessary, I'd like to get that done next Sun 9/5...

TUE 8/17 (12:15AM) -- Here's the latest and greatest double-elim Upper Bracket. In the Losers Bracket portion, there are three teams left and the two bottom teams have to face each other before facing the higher-seeded team, #1 Wet Bandits. Then you can see how the rounds progress and we'll do a Repeat Championship, if necessary, on either 9/5 or 9/12, depending on the circumstances at that point (i.e., we'll cross that bridge when we have to)...

And here are the Upper matchups for 8/22 spelled out...

Upper-p3-WB: #7 Goonies at #5 Supersikwidit
Upper-p3a-LB: #8 Hawks at #3 Young Gunners
Upper-p3b-LB: Winner-Hawk/YGun at #1 Wet Bandits

Here's the Lower Single-Elim Bracket. We are now at the Championship for 8/22...

Lower-Champ: #5 Huff And Puff at #2 SQ REC

TUE 8/10 (8:00AM) -- Eerily, the REC-AM Upper bracket resembles the REC-PM Upper bracket. Here's the Upper all-double-elim playoff bracket, including results from 8/8, and heading into 8/15...

That means we have these matchups for 8/15...

Upper-p2-WB: #8 Hawks at #5 Supersikwidit
Upper-p2-WB: #7 Goonies at #3 Young Gunners
Upper-p2a-LB: #6 EBAYC at #1 Wet Bandits
Upper-p2a-LB: #4 Shogun at #2 Get Some
Upper-p2b-LB: Winner-Shog/GtSm at Winner-EBYC/WetB

In the Losers Bracket, there's a doubleheader for the winners of the first games. It's a mini-final-four. That will leave us with enough teams to eliminate by the time we reach the Final Three teams in which there's the Last Losers Bracket Game and the Championship. Right now it looks like a Repeat Championship, if necessary due to the double-elim format, would occur on 9/12, after skipping the 9/5 Labor Day holiday.

Here's the Lower Bracket, which is all single-elim...

Which means we have these matchups for 8/15...

Lower-p2: #5 Huff And Puff at #1 Crooked Eight
Lower-p2: #3 Redhawks at #2 SQ REC

The Lower Bracket championship will occur, of course, on 8/22.

REC-AM (OAK) playoff seedings

WED 8/4 (11:59PM) -- Here are the seeds for the matchups this Sun 8/8. We will have separate brackets: an all-double-elim Upper Bracket for all teams that finished .500 or better and an all-single-elim Lower Bracket for the teams that finished below .500...
  1. Wet Bandits (6-1) -- no h2h/common vs GtSm, won s-o-v (13.2) vs GtSm, won Central Conf
  2. Get Some (6-1) -- no h2h/common vs WetB, lost s-o-v (11.8) vs WetB, won Southeast Conf
  3. Young Gunners (5-2) -- no h2h/common vs Shog, won s-o-v (15.6) vs Shog, won Northwest Conf
  4. Shoguns (5-2) -- won head-to-head vs SSWI, no h2h/common vs YGun, lost s-o-v (11.6) vs YGun, won Southwest Conf
  5. Supersikwidit (5-2) -- lost head-to-head vs Shog, no h2h/common vs EBYC, won s-o-v (13.4) vs EBYC
  6. EBAYC (5-2) -- won h2h vs Goon, no h2h/common vs SSWI, lost strength-of-victory (11.8) vs SSWI
  7. Goonies (5-2) -- lost head-to-head vs EBYC, cannot finish higher than EBYC
  8. Hawks (4-3)
Note that in a 4-group format, we would have to just take the winner of each of the four conferences as the top four seeds. This combined with the NFL wildcard tiebreaker system makes the issue of determining tiebreakers much, much easier -- and still maintains integrity. In any case, it's a straight double-elim playoff tournament, so it really doesn't matter where you're seeded. Here are the matchups for this Sun 8/8...

Here are the seeds for the Lower Bracket...
  1. Crooked Eight (3-4) -- no h2h/common vs SQR, won s-o-v (7.7) vs SQR, "won" Southeast Conf
  2. SQ REC (3-4) -- won h2h vs Redh, no h2h/common vs Ckd8, lost s-o-v (3.7) vs Ckd8, "won" Southeast Conf
  3. Redhawks (3-4) -- lost h2h vs SQR, cannot finish higher than SQR, "won" Southwest Conf
  4. Oakland Warriors (2-5) -- "won" Central Conf
  5. Huff And Puff (2-5) -- no h2h/common vs Trpl, won strength-of-victory (4.0) vs Trpl
  6. Triple Threat (2-5) -- no h2h/common vs Huff, lost strength-of-victory (1.0) vs Huff
  7. Bomberz (0-7) -- no h2h/common vs WWWD, won weakness-of-defeat (-13.4) vs WWWD
  8. What Would Wat Do (0-7) -- no h2h/common vs Bmrz, lost weakness-of-defeat (-14.0) vs Bmrz
Interesting stuff...
  • For the first time, we had a strength-of-victory of the minimum mathematical possibility: 1.0 by Triple Threat!
  • For the first time, we had to look at weakness-of-defeat as opposed to strength-of-victory, in which we took the least point differential in all games lost (since there were no games won), without a cap to the point differential in any particular loss -- we normally cap the blowout wins at 20.
We continue the rule of having "winners" from each conference represent the top four seeds. The reason for doing this is just to keep things consistent. Also, in a conference that happened to consist of really strong teams, you might (or might not) have it balanced out this way. Here are the matchups for this Sun 8/8...

REC-AM (OAK) season roadmap

FRI 7/23 (3:30PM) -- Check the update to the roadmap on the right side of the table below.

TUE 6/22 (9:30PM) -- Sixteen teams, all with tipoff timeframes that are earlier in the day. Goonies and Crooked Eight managed to start early and launch on 6/6, which afforded them the bye last Sun 6/20 for Fathers Day.

With 16 teams in two conferences of 8, we simply have every team in each conference play the other 7 teams once each for the 7 regular season games heading into the playoffs. That means the Southeast and Southwest conferences will never play the Central or Northwest conferences, and vice-versa.

However, with 16 teams we can have a massive Upper bracket of 8 teams or more (as it usually turns out, mathematically) that is entirely double-elimination, between all the teams at .500 or above. The remaining 8 or so that were below .500 will play in a Lower bracket that will be single-elimination.

BYES: Byes are only allowable
under special circumstances.

If you have a bye later in the season
that is not a formally requested bye,
due to gym fluctuations and other
unforeseen circumstances, that bye is
not locked down; that week's block
of games can still be shuffled around
as necessary until you formally request
that week to be a bye for your team.

GROUND RULES:
1. Please make sure the number of
red rows (games moved from) equals
the number of green rows (games
moved to).
2. Make sure you have 7 regular
season games listed with your
team name.
3. The last 1 or 2 of 7 regular
season games are usually encoded
as inter-conference or other
special type of matchup.
4. The playoffs are pretty much
nailed down, barring unforeseen
circumstances (i.e., no byes!)
5. Any special late bye requests at
this point will require permission
from other teams to shuffle them
around.
6. Special late bye requests can
*usually* be accommodated if your
team plays a double-header some
other week. But sometimes it
depends on if your opponent is
also stuck with a double-header.
