AAA-6 Playoff Brackets (final)
ChopSticks win AAA-6FT championship
AUGUST 9, 2007 -- The ChopSticks routed the Ligers with perhaps the biggest margin of victory seen in a dreamleague championship in a long time, 68-34. The ChopSticks got out to a 20-10 first quarter lead, then it ballooned to an insurmountable 44-19 by halftime.
The five-man Ligers were without some key guys and the hungry ChopSticks took full advantage. All 9 players on the roster scored (well, they only paid for 8 slots and I didn't have the manpower to enforce the rule), with Hanh Tien leading with 11 points, evidence of balanced scoring. The Ligers shot poorly, but altogether it was simply a rather anti-climatic ending to the season. The Elephant dream ends
AUGUST 2, 2007 -- The Ligers are coming in through the Losers Bracket and requested a bye due to depletion, but it wasn't possible. That means they will face the ChopSticks this Sunday 8/5 for the quasi-championship. If the Ligers win we come back on 8/12, which has been noted as a day to experience depletion by the ChopSticks. But if the ChopSticks win this Sun 8/5, then that's it, they're the champs. Here are recaps from 7/29... More info
There are Elephants rumbling thru town
JULY 25, 2007 -- Tipoffs for 7/29 have been posted on the Bird's Eye page.
JULY 24, 2007 -- Matchups for 7/29 have been posted. Check the Bird's Eye and Playoff Bracket links above. The #13 single-elimination-strapped Elephants, which finished the regular season 2-and-6, continued their improbable romp in the brackets by sending the Quakes to the dungeon. But the #1 ChopSticks still look strong. In the Losers Bracket, the #4 Ligers now have the upper hand, while the scratching-and-clawing BEAST takes on the Quakes, then the winner plays the Ligers. Here are recaps from 7/22... More info
Tipoffs for 7/22 posted
JULY 19, 2007 -- Click on the Bird's Eye link above. What a bunch of matchups we got for 7/22. Can the #12 Contenders pull off the upset of the year against the #1 ChopSticks? And can the #13 Elephants advance with single-elimination as well? At least a #13 or #6 will be on the threshold of the championship after this week. In the Losers Bracket, can Hibachi or BEAST overcome either a stunned or angry sleeping giant Ming Dynasty? And speaking of giants, how about the inevitable elimination of one of the past two AAA-6FT champions, Sqad Up or the Ligers? Or if the Wolverines have their way, will both of the past two champions be eliminated?
Btw, we're still working hard on the stats, even though it seems like we're not. We're pretty far behind, but remain committed to getting them all done by championships, when there are fewer games to input.
Matchups for 7/22 posted
JULY 17, 2007 (7:00PM) -- Check the Bird's Eye and Playoff Bracket links above. So last night, I'm punching in the scores for AAA-6 bracket and there's nothing I can say except, "Wow." Game after game, scoresheet after scoresheet, it was like March Madness 2006. In the Winners Bracket, we have #1 vs #12 and #6 vs #13. We have #2, #3, and #4 now in the Losers Bracket, where #2 and #3 get to play the winners of the low-seed matchups since they are the top two seeds left down there, plus we have to whittle down the Losers Bracket teams big-time, since we don't want to force the winner of the Winners Bracket to delay as we figure things out in the Losers Bracket.
Recaps from 7/8
JULY 17, 2007 -- Recaps from 7/8 have been posted. Next up: scores from 7/15 later Tuesday, a stats update on where we are on Wednesday, and recaps from 7/15 on Thursday, at least that's the plan... More info
T-shirts being distributed
JULY 17, 2007 -- Over the past 3 weeks, we have been distributing the new t-shirts. Props go to Ky Truong of TheOcho in AAA-P for the design and Starfish, owned by the uncle of AAA-P Frosh Tryouts' Calvin Ma, for giving us the usual friendly prices. Thanks to those of you who submitted your designs. We had to pick something quick and didn't really have time to consider all the other ideas that came in. We're still looking for an Oaktown design for the future, btw... More info
If your team has not received their t-shirts yet, please let us know, just in case. We still have more t-shirts to distribute per gym logistics and where you happen to be this Sunday, but we don't want to keep missing you.
Anyone who wants a t-shirt and was not scheduled to get one due to late or non-Internet payments will have to wait until all of the t-shirts are distributed first, so we can see what we got left over. You will have to reimburse us $5 for the cost of the t-shirt. We don't plan to print more t-shirts of our previous designs until next season, which will start the 3rd week of September, after our Vegas tourneys.

JULY 6, 2007 -- Recaps have been posted... More info
JULY 5, 2007 -- Hope everyone had a great July 4th. I'm still gonna try to do recaps from 7/1, but because I've meant to do this the past two weeks and haven't come through, I can't make any promises. Besides, we're getting a little even further behind on stats, so I might just spend all of Friday on stats and hope that nothing comes up the rest of today for recaps. In the meantime, let's take a look at this week's interesting matchups... More info
Playoff matchups for 7/8 posted
JULY 3, 2007 (7:30PM) -- The playoff seeds and matchups in Round 1 have been explained... More info
JULY 3, 2007 (4:30PM) -- The playoff matchups (but not tipoffs) for 7/8 have been posted on the Bird's Eye page. I purposely tried my best to matchup low seeds against high seeds where we hadn't had a matchup already in the regular season. This is very important because the 5 Western teams have not faced anybody outside of the West. To make it a more worthwhile season for each of those 5 teams, we adjusted the matchups accordingly.
An exhaustive article will be written about that later today.
Tipoffs for 7/1 posted
JUNE 28, 2007 -- Tipoffs for 7/1 have been posted. The following teams need to pay for a roster slot before tipoff, otherwise it's an automatic forfeit: Curse of the Golden Showers, Ligers, Morning Wood, San Jose Hibachi, SF Quakes, and the Wolverines. Check the update Payment Registry link above for details.
Matchups for 7/1 posted
REMINDER FOR PLAYOFF ROSTERS: If your team has only 8 roster slots paid, no more than 8 players and those 8 players ONLY are allowed to show up for your game. If you need an extra roster slot available for the playoffs, you will need to contact the league office.
JUNE 27, 2007 -- Matchups (but not tipoffs yet) have been posted on the Bird's Eye page. Payment Registry has also been updated. Recaps from 6/24 coming soon.
Tipoffs for 6/24 posted
JUNE 21, 2007 -- Wow, all teams are paid up for this week. However, don't forget that all teams must have all eligible roster slots paid in full before the playoffs start.
While the West rolls on as usual with its double round-robin, this week in the East, we get to matchup teams that haven't played each other any way we want. We already had the Ming/SJH and BST/Ele matchups, so the remaining 3 matchups for this week were relatively easy to come by. Elephants vs Ming is actually a matchup for next week being played this week, because Ming wanted a bye on 7/1. Huge game for the Contenders, who are at the brink of single-elim playoff status and play against the ChopSticks this weekend.
JUNE 20, 2007 -- Matchups for 6/24 have been posted (see Bird's Eye link above), but I'm working on tipoffs all day today. Here are some recaps from 6/20. Btw, remember I promised to do recaps from 6/3 and 6/10? Well, that ain't happenin' anymore, esp. after how long it took me to do 6/20 recaps... More info
5 teams risk auto-forfeit this Sun 6/17
JUNE 15, 2007 -- Click on the Payment Registry above. The following teams are at risk of auto-forfeiting at tipoff this Sunday 6/17...
- Alameda Ballaz: 6th game, 5 slots paid
- BEAST: 7th game, 6 slots paid
7th+8th slot paid
- Morning Wood: 6th game, 5 slots paid
- San Jose Hibachi: 7th game, 6 slots paid
- T.L Drunkies: 7th game, 6 slots paid
Tipoffs for 6/17 posted
JUNE 14, 2007 (9:30AM) -- Click on the Bird's Eye View link above. In the West, it's the SF Quakes' turn to take a bye. In the East, Sqad Up and Ming Dynasty have a bye due to a pre-arranged matchup way back on 4/15. Next up: update of Payment Registry page (it's currently only updated thru 6/9) and any necessary auto-forfeit warning notices, the long-overdue quickie recaps from 6/3 and quickies from 6/10 as well.
Thus far, if you look at the STANDINGS page, technically only two teams are mathematically destined for single-elim status in the playoffs: Maluphet and the T.L Drunkies which have 5 losses apiece. After last week's loss to the resurgent defending champions Sqad Up, the Alameda Ballaz now have their backs against the wall this Sun 6/17 vs the first-place ChopSticks. Curse of the Golden Showers wants to avoid being dragged into single-elim status by their arch-rivals, the T.L Drunkies. Either the Contenders or Elephants will have single-elim playoff status after this weekend, while BEAST will need another pick-me-up against the former champion Ligers after a thrilling overtime upset last weekend of previous first-place SJ Hibachi, which can possibly retake first with a home game against the struggling Maluphet. Finally, a first-place battle in the West between the Wolverines and Morning Wood.
Stacks-o-stats, Payments, T-shirts
JUNE 13, 2007 -- STATS UPDATE: This past weekend's stack of scoresheets is mighty THICK. Reminder: you guys have to have perfectly filled out lineups -- including guys who show up late who must report their number and full name to the table DURING A DEAD BALL SITUATION -- and all players must have already submitted an online waiver, otherwise your team's stats will be skipped and who knows when we'll get to it because of our cakes on a never-ending conveyor belt. I keep seeing such holes in scoresheets maybe once out of every 8. So if your stats aren't up, that could be a very good reason why.
Btw, I just finished hand-compiling the 6/3 stats and the remaining ones from 5/20. Those will get turned from paper into website by our statcrew pretty soon. Also, stats prior to that should be 100% complete (except for teams fitting the above description) by this Friday, according to our last remaining straggling statcrew teenager.
PAYMENT UPDATE: The end of the AAA-6 regular season is fast approaching and ALL TEAMS MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY TIPOFF OF YOUR 8TH GAME. This includes if you had a significant amount of games with 9 players and you only paid for 8 (I will audit this next week). Also, remember that you cannot have more players at any playoff game than you have paid for, and they all must have played in at least 3 regular season games. I must rule with an iron fist here -- AAA-E Mix and the ShotCallers already know from this past Sunday that it is not beyond me to call the refs as late as halftime and forfeit the game if guys haven't paid up.
T-SHIRT UPDATE: We currently have a handful of dreamleaguers submitting some ideas for t-shirts. We'll figure that out no later than next week. One thing I might have to do: it appears that costs have gone up and the only way to keep my estimates on par is to order all one design (the t-shirt business is weird). So we'll just go with the new design. Because we want this design to be right, maybe we'll put the handful of suggestions up for vote by the end of the week. That means t-shirts won't be ready until probably the 7/1, 7/8, 7/15, and 7/22 games (they can't all be distributed in one week...it's a drip process).
What refs rule on-the-spot holds
JUNE 12, 2007 -- Here's a chance for all divisions to learn from what transpired in the AAA-P recently. It's a reinforcement of whatever refs rule on-the-spot is pretty much what we have to go with... More info

JUNE 8, 2007 -- BEAST and San Jose Hibachi, please check the Bird's Eye View link above for details.
T-shirts: we need new hoop fashion sense
JUNE 7, 2007 -- Click on the Bird's Eye link above, as tipoffs for 6/10 have been posted.
While I've got your attention, let me know if anybody wants to design our new t-shirt coming up. Which means, for those who have been asking, t-shirts won't be available for another 2 weeks (but remember, it's a long season). I'll try to get some of the old designs ordered right away, but of course I need to tally those up first -- which means no more stats entries for several days. Anyways, I digress...
For the first time in years, I took a stroll thru Niketown last week and noticed how not-in-fashion we might be w.r.t. our t-shirts. Things tend to get that way when you turn 36 and have a little 2-year-old to look after. This whole "retro 70's" thing and those colorful (read: ugly) Air Force Ones -- I don't get it. How I long for the days when hoops defined fashion, not the other way around. Ah, the Revolution, the original Haurache, Air Maestros, the Pippens that fit like a sock but weren't called Pippens, when people were too respectful of MJ and didn't wear Jordans unless they were clearly the best player on the court, blah blah blah...I oughtta write a blogpost about this on dreamblogue.
So if there's anybody out there who wants 10 free t-shirts for their whole team (as payment for your assistance and on top of any t-shirts you already get for on-time payments...or if you work yourself to the bone on this new t-shirt design, OK, maybe 20 t-shirts?!!), let me know. The catch: it's gotta have some rendition of our logo and, of course, the words "Dream League". Also, sure would be nice to appease the Oaktown folks this time around, since last time we already made "San Francisco" ones.
Matchups for 6/10 posted, tipoffs soon
JUNE 6, 2007 -- Click on the Bird's Eye link above for the latest and greatest. Don't forget to check the Payment Registry, although it hasn't been updated since 6/2, but at least you know what you owe if you didn't pay anything this past weekend. Meanwhile, we've updated the season schedule... More info
Next on the to-do list for this week: Post scores and quickie recaps from 6/3, and more stats inputting.
The long, arduous path of your stats
JUNE 5, 2007 -- Here are some frequently asked questions about stats. If you've seen this in a reply email to you, don't take it personal. We're just trying to educate everyone on how stats work... More info
And if you're on the list AAA-6 players without online waivers submitted, chances are your stats are not going up anytime soon, although we will try to get them done before the season is over.
TLD, COGS in jeopardy of forfeiting 6/3
MAY 31, 2007 (8:00AM) -- Tipoffs for 6/3 have been posted. Use Bird's Eye link above.
MAY 30, 2007 (11:30PM) -- The following teams are at serious jeopardy of forfeiting this weekend or next. All teams need to have 6 slots paid by tipoff EITHER WITH EXACT CHANGE OF $89.00 OR ONLINE this Sun 6/3...
- Curse of the Golden Showers: 3 slots paid, 5th game on 6/10
- T.L Drunkies: 2 slots paid, 5th game coming up
Check the Payment Registry for exact number of slots paid by each team.
The Golden State of Mind guys
MAY 26, 2007 (8:00AM) -- From Vinsanity. This is a maybe-weekly chat with one or more of the guys from Golden State of Mind, who have a team in dreamleague Bay Area. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend and enjoy the chat... More info
Recaps Recap from 5/20
MAY 24, 2007 (8:00AM) -- Well, all my notes for SF Quakes vs Golden Showers and Wolverines vs T.L Drunkies got wiped out, but at least we have this from quasi-commish Ken Wan, about a thrilling double OT matchup between the Elephants and the Alameda Ballaz. Remember, this past weekend was a makeup weekend for most of the ten Eastern teams and we'll have something similar on 6/3...
"The Elephant's Mike Huang grabbed a key rebound in the first overtime period and was subsequently fouled by Alameda Ballaz' Jun Cruzat, sending Huang to the line. Huang made both free throws to tie the game, eventually sending the game into double overtime..." More info
AAA-6FT mid-season outlook
MAY 18, 2007 (2:30PM) -- You gotta start off with defending champs Sqad Up. They righted the ship after starting out 0-2, with a heartbreaking OT loss for the 2nd of those two losses. They're now 3-2. Wouldn't it be funny if they mimicked the season of the Dallas Mavericks? Start out with an ofer, then go on a regular season rampage, then fizzle out in the playoffs. I guess Sqad Up isn't laughing. Seriously though, this is not likely to happen... More info
Tipoffs for 5/20 posted
MAY 17, 2007 (3:30PM) -- The tipoffs for 5/20 were posted this morning. Check the Bird's Eye link above. In the 5-team West, it's Morning Wood's turn to take a bye this Sun 5/20. In the East, this is actually a makeup weekend, as well as 6/3 (remember, 5/27 is a holiday, so we have a 3-week catchup period in the East here), so everyone in the East gets a bye on 5/20 except for the Elephants vs Alameda Ballaz matchup which was originally scheduled on 4/22, but AlBa wanted a bye back on 4/22.
There's another makeup game involving BEAST vs Maluphet, but BEAST wanted a bye on 5/20, so this matchup will occur on the other East makeup weekend of 6/3. There is also a matchup involving Ming Dynasty which we may schedule for 6/3 because Ming wants a bye during the repeat matchup weekend of 7/1. I'll try to get this all spelled out in an updated version of the Season Schedule article soon.
Win Gatorade, donate 15 minutes this Saturday
MAY 16, 2007 (3:00PM) -- Join us this Saturday, May 19 from 10am onwards at the Asian Heritage Street Celebration. We will have our own booth (donated by AsianWeek) where you can shoot mini-hoops and win what will probably be coveted bottles of Gatorade, if the weather is hot.
If you want to drop by and help give Commish a little break from manning the booth, that would be greatly appreciated, too. Btw, we're there to promote our Beijing 2008 Olympics tour/tourney... More info
Suspensions levied for taunting
MAY 16, 2007 (8:00AM) -- Players and fans on AAA-Elite teams Hyphy and Second To None were levied suspensions by the league office for altercations stemming from taunting. Luckily, an outright fight was avoided. Meanwhile, the REC-Oak Spartans team is currently under investigation for taunting... More info
Now's also a good time to remind you that we have a Rasheed Wallace rule, too. The moment any player accrues 4 technical fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct, that player will automatically receive a one-game suspension.
Cut out the player-to-player chatter
MAY 15, 2007 (8:00AM) -- Scores from 5/13 are going up as we speak. We still plan to update the Season Schedules and do a midseason preview now that a few games are under our belt. Stats are going up slowly and 5/13 was finally a week where we had our regular staff and, thus, good scoresheets which will make 5/13 stats go up more smoothly.
While we wait for this content, please be remind that in dreamleague, you are strictly forbidden from instigating any sort of inflammatory chatter with an opposing player. Normally, we call this the "taunting" rule, but our experience tells us that many of you do not really know what "taunting" means. You may think that saying, "Shoot the ball" is trivial to your opponent, but your opponent might not because if he makes the shot, he's going to say something back at you. And yes, we think it's your fault for instigating it in the first place. As written in our RULES & REGULATIONS, taunting is an automatic ejection.
If you are caught as a recipient of instigation and the ref is not aware of the chatter going on, the protocol is to tell the ref about it and if you don't think he's handling it, burn a timeout and have your captain call me on cellphone immediately.
Tipoffs for 5/13 Posted
MAY 10, 2007 (8:00AM) -- See Bird's Eye link above. Here are some scheduling quirks for 5/13...
- Both SF Quakes and Morning Wood requested an early game and they got it: 9am. The rest of the league thanks them for taking that spot!
- The Contenders travel to SMHS to face SJ Hibachi, which requested an earlier tipoff as well. As previously mentioned in the Season Schedule article and will be detailed by next week, 8 of the 9 teams from Oakland makes 1 trip out to the Peninsula to meet Hibachi (last week the Alameda Ballaz got lucky and played them in Oakland, since Hibachi needed an early game and we didn't have early games available on the Peninsula).
Meanwhile, you should see stats dating back to 4/15 start to trickle in in the next few days, as they are mostly in the hands of our teenage online statcrew after a grueling few weeks of setting up the teams with the right player names in the database.
We ask that you continue to provide team names and full names of players, including those who show up late, each week at your game. Make sure everyone on your team has submitted an ONLINE WAIVER at some point, especially if they are new to dreamleague. Any small omission can cause the greatest of delays in getting stats inputted.
Matchups for 5/13 Posted, Tipoffs Soon
MAY 9, 2007 (2:00PM) -- The matchups for 5/13 have been posted. Click on the Bird's Eye View link above. Specific tipoff times will be posted by tomorrow, but you can get a sense of where and what time your team will be playing by looking at the preferences of your team and your opponent's on the Bird's Eye page.
Being proactive about tipoff timeframes
MAY 8, 2007 (8:00AM) -- Perhaps it's not immediately evident, but there's a lot you can do to not only get the tipoff timeframe you want, but be able to better predict what time your game will be this upcoming Sunday, if you can't wait until... More info
Commish is currently working feverishly on: (1) Posting scores from 5/6, (2) Scheduling 5/13, (3) Posting updates on your Season Schedule page, (4) Posting updates on your Season Preview page, (5) Inputting stats not already being handled by our stats manager Mark Chin and his teenage stat crew, and (6) Updating the Payments Registry page. Try not to bug him unless it's painfully urgent!
Stats: You do your part, we'll do ours
MAY 4, 2007 (8:00AM) -- The first few weeks might be the most crucial parts of the stats process. You see, we have to punch in your rosters correctly first. Then we can go robotic and feed scoresheets (assuming they are taken down correctly by the handful of people who will end up touching them) to our kids from the YMCA, etc., to punch in.
So you just simply, absolutely, unequivocally gotta do your part right. Otherwise we might have to hold off on your stats because we can't figure out who you are... More info
Tipoffs for 5/6 Posted
MAY 3, 2007 (3:00PM) -- See Bird's Eye link above. ChopSticks and Ligers have a bye because Ligers requested one for this week. So in essence the Ligers vs ChopSticks game on 4/15 was a makeup of this weekend. Other than that, there doesn't seem anything out of the ordinary in terms of the schedule this Sunday due to the Sequoia situation mentioned below, San Jose Hibachi will travel to Oakland to face the Alameda Ballaz (lucky AlBa) -- we'll make extra sure that Hibachi doesn't have to travel again this regular season, barring unforeseen circumstances. It's the Wolverines turn to take a bye on 5/6 in the 5-team Western Conference.
Next week, I'll update the Season Schedule article to show these matchups that have been moved to accommodate bye requests and the like. Other than the above, 5/6 seems like a pretty normal week of matchups. We're setting up the teams with player names from our database and stats should be going up next week. Be sure to spell your names and DON'T FORGET TO WRITE YOUR TEAM NAME on the scoresheets!
Looking ahead to 5/6 and 5/13 (and 6/17)
MAY 2, 2007 (8:00AM) -- THIS ONLY AFFECTS ALAMEDA BALLAZ AND SAN JOSE HIBACHI: There's a huge youth tournament taking up all the Peninsula gyms, but we're trying to squeeze our way into late afternoon at CSM. Of course, the Sequoia gym director didn't tell us this until less than 24 hours ago (and this is the #1 reason why we run things the way we do, i.e., the Thursday notifications of tipoffs).
So count on a later game if we can get CSM (looks good thus far, but we've been hit by wrenches from leftfield before). We might need to displace the AAA-6FT Alameda Ballaz vs San Jose Hibachi game to Oakland due to gym limitations and the fact that Hibachi needs earlier tipoff times.
APRIL 30, 2007 (11:00PM) -- Oops, typo: This Sun 5/6, ...
APRIL 30, 2007 (5:00PM) -- This Sun 5/13, IJRC will be closed due to a big Cinco de Mayo event (the center is often rented out on Saturdays by the Latino community). As of this writing, it looks like we will have to postpone one entire division and it looks like that division will be REC-Oakland.
Unless someone knows of another Oakland gym that can be secured immediately (and we have checked a lot of them) and unless I somehow change my mind that REC-Oak should not be the division to be postponed this weekend, the season will continue as scheduled on your Season Schedule article underneath "Articles from this season" on the right. As usual, you should be doublechecking the tipoff preferences for your team and, for your own sake, that of your opponent, to either get a sense of what time your game might be or recognize that there might be a discrepancy between the two teams. Which brings us to...
MOTHER'S DAY 5/13: The feedback I'm getting from all 9 divisions is that most of you don't want to prolong the season too far -- if you look at the Season Schedule page in the List of Articles on the right (for all divisions except NL+AL-Elite), you'll see that we're into late July or, in some cases, early August.
To avoid stretching too far, we're planning to play on Mother's Day 5/13 (and Father's Day 6/17). SO NOW IS THE TIME TO SUBMIT PREFERENCES FOR THOSE DAYS, OR REQUEST/PRAY FOR A BYE ON 5/13 AND/OR 6/17.
Tipoffs for 4/29 Posted
APRIL 26, 2007 (6:30PM) -- 4/29 tipoffs posted. See Bird's Eye View link above (posted at 12pm). Payment Registry also updated. Next on the docket: (1) Update the SCHEDULE/SCORES page, (2) More in-depth season schedule explanations, (3) Start scheduling 5/6, (4) Season Previews, and (5) Add $1 late fees to payments.
APRIL 25, 2007 (2:00PM) -- Still working on 4/29 tipoffs. First draft of season schedule matchups is up... More info
APRIL 23, 2007 (6:30PM) -- This site is still a bit under construction. In the meantime, you can look at the AAA-6FT season preview.
