Floodgates Finally Open at SMHS as Only #1 thru #4 Remain
MAY 19, 2005 -- After many, many weeks of trying, we finally secured SMHS and not only that, things look pretty good for future seasons, at least as of this writing. THAT BEING SAID, BECAUSE THIS IS A NEW VENUE, WE ADVISE THAT YOU BUDGET EXTRA COMMUTE TIME JUST IN CASE!!!
In our games last Sunday, Alex Cruz closed out a scrappy CloseOut 58-54, while T-One survived another week in the Losers Bracket by escaping with a 53-47 victory. 36-Minute Man should be sending the stats and stories from 5/15 shortly (for once, the league has finished its article before he has!).
In the Losers Bracket, we have Old Skool, which lost to Ryusei back on 5/8, against T-One. Old Skool got blasted by T-One in the regular season game, albeit with a depleted lineup. This time around, it will be T-One with the depleted lineup, as they have some folks arriving after 4pm due to a prior engagement. If T-One can get past Old Skool, they'll have key players fresh for the showdown against the Winners Bracket loser.
The reason why we have the loser of the Winners Bracket game between Alex Cruz and Ryusei playing in a 2nd game later on 5/22 is not only due to the rule of doubleheaders allowed for Losers Bracket teams (the loser of the Ryusei/Alex game by definition instantly becomes a Losers Bracket team), but also it allows us to have a championship situation in which the team from the Losers Bracket doesn't have the huge disadvantage of playing its 2nd game against a fresh championship contender from the Winners Bracket (see schedule below).
The bracket that has resulted in AAA-San Mateo is the one that the league always hopes for in terms of scheduling. That being said, if a repeat championship is required where the Losers Bracket team happens to beat the Winners Bracket team on 6/5, then we must schedule that repeat game for 6/12 because it would be impossible to schedule a game that may or may not happen at a gym so expensive in cost and inflexible in their scheduling.
