JUNE 14, 2004 -- In consecutive 5-on-5 tugs-of-war, the Roadrunners managed to snatch the championship away from the Travis Hawks with two straight victories by the scores of 47-34 and 46-42. Rachel Jung led the Roadrunners in each of the wins with 22 pts on 6 three-pointers in the first game, followed by 16 pts in the second match.

The second, sudden-death matchup was the closer one of the two. The Roadrunners held just a 25-24 lead at halftime, then held off the Hawks to win by four.

Both teams only had five players for each game. Most notably, the Travis Hawks played without league MVP Buffy Carter. Melissa Lewis carried the load in Carter's absence, with 20 rebounds in the first game and 16 pts in the second, but Carter was sorely missed as Travis ended its season at 10-3.

Travis's only other loss was to the RSF Ballers, which had to bow out of the playoffs due to its players heading home during the college summer semester. The Hawks can look back at some stellar play, including the triple-double by Carter, the inside dominance of Melissa Lewis, and the three-point shooting of Sharla McClendon and Kristine Khaeler.

The Roadrunners capped off their season just one game over .500, but in the end, all that mattered was the championship crown. Captain Irene Wong struggled to get a roster together all season long, but the team's perserverance paid off when all was said and done. Along with Wong, Wendy Yu, Kimiko Leong, and Kristen Welsh supplied the teamwork and support for high-scorer Rachel Jung.
