OCTOBER 13, 2003 -- The "new" Touchless team, the #1 seed going into the playoffs, soundly defeated the #2-seeded Billy Huang, 68-52 in the championship. Billy Huang could not seem to break the 14-point barrier, and Touchless was hitting its threes after Billy Huang was forced to play zone as a result of the penetration of the Touchless guards.
Last season, a similarly named team called Touchless won, but while 80% of that team went on to become the team known as G-Unit in the NL, Menh Voong and Allen Lam stuck around and rebuilt Touchless into yet another champion. Here is the Touchless roster for this season:
Rod Balandra
Allen Lam
Dexter Li
Solomon Soo Hoo
Darren Tran
Menh Voong
Bernard Washington
Jerry Zhou
The Billy Huang team had beaten the #7 Flight Knights Exhumed, who were without the services of star forward Derrick Yee. However, Billy Huang also played without their star forward, Ty Shay. Billy Huang hung onto win by 3 points in the last Losers Bracket game.
Our 3-Point Shootout was not well-attended with the Final 3 playing on a Sunday night in Oakland, but here were the tallies:
3-POINT SHOOTOUT RESULTS
First Round (Pts-Player)
6 - Dave Tu, Billy Huang
5 - Darren Tran, Touchless
12 - Yih-Wei Chien, Below The Rim
9 - Jeff Tong, Flight Knights Exhumed
7 - John Hsu, Below The Rim
11 - Menh Voong, Touchless
15 - Rich Twu, Flight Knights Exhumed
5 - Billy Huang, Billy Huang
9 - Hank Kim, Billy Huang
Second Round (Pts-Player)
6 - Menh Voong
12 - Yih-Wei Chien
8 - Rich Twu
Yih-Wei Chien of Below The Rim was our 3-Point Shootout Champion, the first frontcourt player in Dream League history to win such an award (you can hear Bill Walton in the distance: "Put it up, big fella, put it up!!").
Thanks to all of the teams for another great AL season! The raw, uncompiled stats for the final two games are up on the Yahoo Groups site. Please stay tuned for All-Star voting.
Also, next season will be starting tentatively on November 9, so the deadline for rosters and payments is November 2. We'll be in touch soon!
