WKYA Shocks Ryusei in Sudden-Death Overtime

DECEMBER 5, 2004 -- For only the 2nd time in Dream League history, a game resorted to sudden-death triple overtime. #20 WKYA prevailed when Dan Mok made the 2nd of two free throws in the third overtime. Mok finished with 12 pts 13 reb while Kai Hopton led WKYA with 15 pts. Ryusei, which was led by Jimmy Hom with 15 pts, played without leader Jon Kwok.

WKYA, which did the impossible by taking down a team 16 places higher in the rankings, advanced to face #5 Alum and will need to find a way to stop big man Steve Chow and pogo stick Tom Hamdani.

Ryusei fell to the Losers Bracket and will now pay the price by facing #8 T-One on the Peninsula, and if they win, #3 BTU in San Francisco. This means that one of the top seeds, either #3 or #4, will be eliminated this Sunday. Ryusei, which was the #1 seed in the Winter/Spring '04 session and lost to the Warriors, which moved down from the AL during that inaugural AAA season, will be a tough team to beat when all of their pieces are there. Hopefully they'll get Kwok back on the do-or-die 12/12. If Ryusei can get past the underdog T-One, then they'll have their hands full with BTU, which lacks a 6-footer to defend Kwok but has the speed and teamwork to match the chemistry of Ryusei.
