Prime Time and Beacon Take Early Lead in Standings
OCTOBER 16, 2004 -- Standings are now up on the STANDINGS/TEAMS page (see left-hand navigation panel). See recaps below as to how Prime Time and Beacon have taken the early lead in the standings...
Livestrong 66, Rich's Rayguns 64: Will Wheatley (24 pts) of the Rayguns got a jumper blocked by Livestrong's Kai Bell (10 reb) with 3 seconds remaining to leave Livestrong with a 2-point victory...Aaron McGee added 18 pts and James Manalang 5 ast for Livestrong, Nick St. Jean had 17 pts 11 reb for the Rayguns...Rayguns had just 5 players and played without leading scorer Everett Johnson, who went down with a knee injury during the previous week...Livestrong now has an OT loss, a loss by 1 point, and a win by 2 points...Meanwhile the Rayguns have two losses totaling 5 points.
BBCC 63, All World 52: Good 'ol defending champs BBCC is back with its front line of Jairus Michael and Roy Byrd, which now anchors the swarming BBCC team defense...Michael had 13 pts on a couple thunderous dunks and 8 blocked shots for BBCC...Youngster Sean Haywood co-led BBCC in scoring with 14 pts along with point guard Ken Jennings...L'Andrew Jenkin was the high man for All World with 11 pts 10 reb...All World was still within 7 pts with 2:00 to go, but then things got too personal and the game was almost called by the refs -- next time they may not be as lenient, folks...Try to play with a positive attitude and be fulfilled by the great sport of basketball, otherwise what's the point?...What made things worse was All World leaving the gym without honoring their pre-game commitment to contribute to the team fees owed...All World has not contributed one dime, yet they have already played three games (not cool)...Commish is waiting for an explanation, else it was a waste of time including them in the scheduling, assigning refs, etc. and we would have to move on without them...Someone call the Fun Police!
Prime Time 74, Big Dawgs 64: First of all, what a bunch of upstanding citizens...Johnny Qura pays up for 6 out of the 7 spots on his team (thank you), and even though the Big Dawgs added no monies that night, they have always come through thanks to captain Manish Nandani...Dawgs are hurting without any inside presence and only 5 guys...Where's former Sunday MVP Mark Smith?...But Prime Time shot the lights out from the gate once again (third straight week?)...24-10 blast out of the gate with 5-for-10 on three-pointers in the 1st quarter...Clint Ladine led Prime again with 19 pts but more impressively filling the stat box as usual with 13 reb 8 ast...Barry Hodge started out hot with 18 pts in the first half to finish with a total of 24 pts 10 reb, and Gus Qura contributed 5 ast...Nandani was held to 9 pts while Brent Wyse led the Dawgs with 18 pts 9 reb 5 ast, Jimmy Noriega added 12 pts 8 ast...Circle Oct 28 on the calendar as Prime Time, led by Ladine, heads into a collision course with Beacon.
Slow Love 78, Service With A Smile 65: Reggie Cooks led Service with 31 pts on 14-for-20 from the floor, but it was the balanced attack of Slow Love, led by Chris Hong and Hubert Liu with 16 pts each...Sound defense gave Slow Love a 52-32 halftime lead and they never looked back.
Beacon Ballers 2, Leary/Lars 0: Leary/Lars had a couple guys running late from work and couldn't put together the minimum 4 guys to start...Too bad because this was a matchup well worth watching...Assuming Leary/Lars continues on a strong pace, this win by Beacon could be a critical tiebreaker advantage for the playoff rankings, we'll have to see.
OCTOBER 13, 2004 -- Stats are currently up for the teams that have made payments on time THUS FAR. "Thus far" means KEEP IT UP, so the league expects teams to keep making payments each and every week. Your team should be averaging payments of $80 total each game in order to be on time. Most of you will need to bring at least $100 on 10/14 to get back on a reasonable payment schedule.
