#6 Below The Rim Crashes Top 4 Party

JULY 28, 2004 -- Yes, scores, stats, and brackets are on their way. Been a hectic week, please understand. Here are some belated recaps from 7/18...

FlyE def. Free: Guess my prediction for Free as darkhorse was a bust...Dave Shu still got his shots for 19 pts, but maybe they missed the rebounding of Sean Liu...Boun Khamnouane got hot for Eleph and had 20 pts on 5-for-10 treys...As Boun goes, so go Elephants?
BTR def. Ballers: Tough draw for Ballers...All four main guys for BTR showed up and scored in double digits.
DFB def. FlyE: Khamnouane stayed hot w/ 20 pts, but when DFB's Rich Santiago, Rob Fong, and Steve Fong are hitting, they're tough to beat.
BTR def. FunP: Fun showed up a little late and depleted, so Rob Dhat's 18 pts, Yih-Wei Chien's 11 pts, and Mike Ouye's 13 reb were enough to crush Fun, which couldn't hit anything.
Token def. Striders: Gutsy win by low-seeded Token, overcoming Godwin Wong's 22 pts.
Fob5 def. Token: Johnny Liu led Fob5 with 16 pts as they held Token to no one with double digits except Robby Kwok with 11...Big 13-5 3rd quarter blitz was the difference.
Maestros def. Got Rice: Got Rice only had 4 guys, but game was not decided until 4th quarter...Maestros got 20 pts from Richard Lu, but could not stop Galen Ma from tallying 24 pts 14 reb.

Belated previews. Let's see how these predictions come out since details from 7/25 games are not yet known...

#7 Rice vs #5 Striders: Probably depends on depleted roster of Rice.
#4 Fob5 vs #1 DFB: Factors include shooting of DFB guards, impact of utility man Nate Wong...For Fob5, it's Frank Liu, Johnny Liu, and Darien Tung.
#8 FlyE vs #3 Ballers: Ballers struggling, FlyE depends on shooting of Khamnouane.
#6 BTR vs #2 Alliance: Here's BTR's chance to make a splash...Rob Dhat definitely out due to wedding, but that still leaves Jason Lin, Yih-Wei Chien, and John Hsu matched up against the chemistry of Alliance guards and scorers Jack Chin down low, Donny Young from down low or beyond the arc, and Eugene Chung everywhere.

JULY 21, 2004 -- Schedule for 7/25 is now set!...

JULY 20, 2004 -- The name of the game on Sunday was to crack the Top 4 in the Winners Bracket, and #6 Below The Rim did just that by shutting down the #11 Fun Police, then upsetting the #3 Ballers. All other higher-seeded teams held form except the #10 Maestros, who saw the light by crushing #7 Got Rice, which played with only 4 players. But after two quarters, #2 Alliance extinguished the Maestros' glimmer of hope.

More news to follow shortly. Schedule up by Thursday morning, as usual. Stats on their way. Playoff brackets updated. See final scores and schedule requests below...

JULY 17, 2004 -- We have now had 2 or 3 team roster change requests due to depleted rosters. Whether or not these are all coincidental, the timing of these requests being on the first week of playoffs cannot be any worse. While most captains don't really care and say "bring it", some captains are understandably very concerned.
