| Alliance Clinches Southern Conference Title
JUNE 17, 2004 -- Stats will be delayed due to members of our teenage stat crew leaving for summer camp and the Mayor's Summer Youth Program not starting yet. Here are recaps from Sunday: Alliance 60, Fob Five 57: Alliance clinched the Southern Conference title with another head-to-head victory over Fob Five...D.Young (A) 25 pts 10 reb, J.Chin 16 pts 10 reb. J.Lin (F) 28 pts 9 reb, F.Liu 18 pts. BTR 50, Token 43: The 3rd and 4th quarters were like night and day, with Token outscoring BTR 6-4 in the 3rd to pull to within 2...Then Yih-Wei Chien scored 16 pts in the 4th to lead BTR to the 7-point victory...Y.Chien (B) 22 pts 10 reb, M.Ouye 10 reb...R.Kwok (T) 16 pts...Token gets a chance for revenge since 6/20 is a makeup game and 6/13 was based on the standings...Token needs a win to break away from the cellar and approach the Top 12. Free 59, Maestros 51: The Free Agents finally had more than 5 guys show up and the well-stocked roster led to a convincing victory...W.Lu (F) 14 pts...D.Murai (M) 14 pts 12 reb, A.Chen 16 pts but 6 turnovers...Free Agents now a respectable 2-4 while the Maestros have some crucial games coming up to break into the Top 12. DFB defeated Flying Elephants: Unfortunately, we don't have the scoresheet for this yet, but stats should be up soon...DFB created some separation in the standings away from FlyingE. Ballers defeated Scrub Club: Again, no scoresheet yet...Scrub was within 6 pts going into the 4th, but their 5 guys could not hang with the Ballers full squad...Ballers stay ahead of the North with DFB right on their heels. Benchwarmers 63, Gamerz 40: J.Aguila (B) 18 pts, H.Chen 16 pts, J.Hsiang 11 reb, Z.Nagarvala 10 reb...J.Kim (G) scored 30 of Gamerz 40 pts, including 14 reb 5 stl 7 turnovers...Benchwarmers get much-needed first win and head-to-head advantage over equally struggling Gamerz. Fun Police 42, Got Rice 38: Fun Police outscore Rice 16-4 in the 4th to pull away...J.Kwok (F) led balanced attack with 11 pts, R.Tran 10 reb...R.Plang (G) 15 pts, G.Ma 14 pts 10 reb 7 stl...Fun Police can now pull even with DFB on 6/20. So Alliance clinches the Southern Conference title, which means they can be no worse than the #2 seed going into the playoffs. Over in the North, even though the Ballers are 5-0, things are still interesting because the Fun Police, whose only losses are by 2 and 6 points, not to mention huge strength of victory margins, face off against DFB. If DFB holds off the Fun Police, rest assured that we will have a DFB vs Ballers show-down in the final two weeks of the regular season. This Sunday, it's still playoff positioning time and only the top twelve make it. Fob Five and the Flying Elephants will get a head start on the inter-conference play, since they both want 7/11 as a bye. Finally, with 9 teams in the North, not all of the games coming up after this Sunday will be inter-conference. We will have some games that pit teams in the North that have not yet faced each other and that definitely have playoff implications! The scheduling all depends on this weekend's results...
