Unshakeables 2, Never Too Late 0

PLAYOFF BRACKETS

SEPTEMBER 9, 2003 -- The Women's League playoff picture is finally set. Per the Rules & Regulations, the Unshakeables (8-0) earned the #1 spot with the best record in the league. However, the #2 spot goes to the top team in the opposite conference, which would be the Slammers (5-3). Then #3 thru #8 are seeded by standings and tiebreakers as stated in the Rules & Regulations.

Last Sunday, Motion defeated Never Too Late to squeak into the playoffs as the 8th and final seed. Here are the seedings:

1. Unshakeables (8-0)
2. Slammers (5-3)
3. Roadrunners (7-1)
4. HQPs (5-3)
5. Gunners (5-3)
6. The Goods (4-4)
7. Hoppers (3-5)
8. Motion (2-6)

Check the PLAYOFF BRACKETS and let Irene Wong know if there are any other scheduling discrepancies aside from the current list below.

An analysis of the Playoff Brackets should reveal that the lowest seed that drops into the Losers Bracket will play against the highest seed also in the Losers Bracket, unless the two teams have already played each other in the playoffs. This ensures that the regular season seedings have meaning. This also minimizes the risk of having the only real weakness of a double-elimination format: when two teams who have already played against each other in the playoffs meet up again, but this time winner takes all (which sort of makes the first matchup irrelevant).
