JUNE 2, 2003 -- All four top seeds advanced in the Winners Bracket yesterday. This sets up the following matchups at the Boys & Girls Club on Sunday in Round 2 of the Playoffs...

#1 ST. MARY'S vs #4 NONPROFITS UNITED (9:30): St. Mary's is looking very tough to beat. They routed #8 Safeway, which was without leading scorer Barry Hodge. However, would Hodge have been able to make up for the 50+ point barrage? St. Mary's is definitely looking like the team to beat. Meanwhile, the Nonprofits seem to be hitting a groove with their convincing win over SBC/PacBell. Should be a great matchup.

#2 SF POLICE DEPARTMENT vs #3 PLAY HARD (10:30): The matchup to watch is at the point guard position. The SFPD's Brian Schaffer and Play Hard's Jimmy Noriega are the leaders of their respective teams. Should be another great matchup.

#5 SBC/PACBELL vs #8 SAFEWAY (11:30): This is the ultimate pairing of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. SBC/PacBell started out the season strong, but has been struggling over the past few weeks to find its groove. Safeway has also been trying to hit a spark. Which team will show up and which team will go home?

#6 PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS vs #7 OLD SCHOOL (12:30): Here are two evenly-matched teams. It should be interesting to find out which team will be left standing, as both teams have had an Achilles heel of closing out games in the 4th quarter. It will probably come down to whether or not PwC can defend the low-post of Old School while outrunning on the offensive end, as well as the clutch jump shooting of each team's leaders: PwC's Nick Lee and Old School's Smoke Thomas.
