Bombs Away! D-Chin Goes Off After Boost From Unlikely Source |
| If there was ever a time for a food sponsorship, Chipotle should have taken advantage of it tonight. The story goes that Kash Miah was planning to reward Danny Chin with a Chipotle Steak burrito if they won the first game (which they did) but it’s what Chin did during this game that deserved a Chipotle franchise. You’re probably wondering WTH is going on with this Chipotle story. Here goes….
A few weeks ago after locking up the first seed in the AAA, D- Chin visited Kash Miah at work for lunch. Miah took him to Chipotle; usual spot for many in NYC, except D-Chin had never been to Chipotle. Can you believe that? Someone who lives within the 5 boroughs had never been to Chipotle!! Like most NY’ers Chin instantly fell in love with the burrito and couldn’t stop talking about it for weeks. So for playoffs, Miah planned on rewarding D-Chin with his new love, only if they won. Of course they won and after wolfing down his reward, he rewarded his team with an amazing shooting display that caught Old School off guard and scrambling for a new defensive scheme.
While Chin kept his team in it with long bombs, TSIV took a page out of the Bearball game plan and ran them ragged. Ian and Vegas Dave ran circles around BB with cuts to the basket and hitting long threes (Yu had 3 of them). Bearball coming off an earlier win looked tired and slow but there would be life from the unlikely hero of game one.
With 4 secs left, Brian Zhang blocked Miah in the left corner but while all the players were waiting for the clock to run out, Danny Han rebounded the blocked shot and laid it in at the buzzer to cut it to 4 heading into the 4th. That gave BB a much needed energy boost.
But TSIV didn’t let that affect them at all. These were the former champions after all. They’ve been pushed down before but always found a way to hit back. After a few exchanges, TSIV started to assert themselves with Chris Kwan getting in the action hitting a contested 3 followed by a Vegas Dave twirling layup up over 3 defenders.
Just when things looked bleak for BB, Mike Chin got rolling and found another gear. MC cut the deficit to 7 with a layup, then found Miah for a transition 3 to slice it to 4. Instantaneously, MC stole the inbounds pass and laid it in to make it a 2 point game. After TSIV miss, D-Chin gave BB their first lead for good with a 3-point bomb with 4 minutes to go. Miah added a layup on the next offensive possession and BB didn’t look back. A 12-0 run and TSIV seemed done.
TSIV had to work extremely hard for a basket the rest of the way through the intense BB half-court defense (full court press didn’t work too well in the 1st half). For TSIV, they did the one thing they never do, give up leads. They’re one of the most sure handed teams in the league with veterans all the way around. It’s an Andre Liu team for God’s Sakes! He, Arif Ansari and Felix Shen have been in so many battles, they never take anything for granted.
Bearball definitely needed to win this game so they could rest all of their guys after a double header. Now If D-Chin keeps shooting like the way he did tonight, we may have to open up a Chipotle shop just for him and serve him burritos like he served TSIV 3-pointers.
