 Run & Gun 61, Bearmen 2.0 59 |
Friends Act Like Foes |
| September 9, 2009 - New York, NY (DL) - Teammates constantly split up in sports for whatever reason, sometimes it's money, other times the grass always seems greener on the side. In the DL, it's rarely about the money.
Kash Miah left Ironmen (then CEMQ) in hopes of doing his own thing but didn't quite pan out as planned, and now has come back to team up with Danny and Mike Chin once again. Tommy Zheng left his crew and teamed up with Kash last season but now is hoping success will find him with his old gang (church team).
This game was all about familiarity and the return to it and boy was it a game. Each team made their runs and each team had their let downs. Bearmen played small ball without their all AAA center Ricky Vien (back injury, hopefully not doing anything crazy) but were still able to run up and down with TMZ's Run and Gun team (a style of play fitting for that team).
The first half was close with each team trying to out run and gun the other. The 3rd quarter was a blistering quarter for Bearmen as Kash (17 pts, 7 rebs and 6 steals), Mike Chin (21 pts, 4 asts, 2 steals) and Danny Chin (14 pts, 9 rebs) started carving their way to a 20 point quarter, and a 9 point lead. But Run and Gun were just getting started on their own run.
Led by TMZ (18 pts, most of them coming in the 4th, and 7 rebs) Run and Gun went on a furious 4th quarter run, not to mention forcing a slew of Bearmen turnovers, that gave them a 3-point lead with under a minute left. Then things got a little dramatic. Kash hit a crazy bank 3 with the shot clock winding down that tied the game. The next play saw TMZ slammed to the floor on a hard drive through the middle. TMZ, cool and calm as he normally is, hit both free throws to give them the lead.
With 10 seconds left, after a Bearmen timeout, the play was drawn up for Mike Chin to go to work and he did just that. Breaking down 3 defenders Mighty Mike got to the basket but missed the contested layup and was fouled on the way down. Of course by now the pressure had mounted and Chin had to make both for OT.
After the first make, the second clanked off and into the hands of Tim Chin, who hit one of two to secure the win.
If this game showed anything, TMZ's crew is for real with a solid 4th man in Tim Chin (11 pts, 11 rebs), and two wing guys who can run up and down with Tommy in Leon Chu (14 pts) and Wai Chang (10 pts). They're definitely contenders for the AAA crown but don't put down the Bearmen just yet. They can hold the fort till Ricky comes back and you never know, he may be this year's Steve Hong. | Score by Quarters | Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | OT | Total |
