RL Cruisers 79, New York Fury 58 |
Flight of the Cruisers |
| November 18, 2007 - New York, NY (DL) - There is a show on HBO, a show that is so irreverently funny that I must implore you to watch it, if you aren’t already.
That show is called Flight of the Conchords and it stars two New Zealanders – Bret and Jemaine – who are in search of musical stardom right here in New York City. Actually it’s more about their trials and tribulations in search of musical fame. Their embarrassing trials and tribulations.
Every once in awhile though, they know what time it is, get their groove on, and announce when, it’s time.
When it’s Business Time. Just like how the Cruisers knew it was so on Sunday when they took on the New York Fury in a quarterfinal game without the likes of CB Liu, Shawn de los Reyes, and Christian Stevens around.
The Cruisers just seemed to come with a sense of purpose. The Fury, on the other hand, were short-handed and barely had 5 players. The Cruisers outplayed the Fury from the start in virtually every aspect of the game as Stan Yeung set the table, Tony Hu and George Chan had field days from the floor, the Chu brothers provided speed and power, and, heck, Quincy Tso even showed up.
Here, in a nod to Bret and Jemaine (and Marty), the Cruisers sing for us, Business Time:
Tony: Ahh yeah, that’s right baby. Boy, today we're gonna make love. You know how I know baby? Cuz it's Sunday, and Sunday is the day that we make love with this game. Tuesday night is the night that we go and have hot pot and we drink bubble tea with it, but Sunday is the day that we make love with this game. Cuz everything is just right, we're not too tired from working all day 9-5 and we don't have to come to the gym and change out of our suits. There's nothing good on TV, conditions are perfect. You lean in close and say something sexy like "We almost lost to Gen X in the first round." I know what you're trying to say baby. You're tryin to say "Ooh yeah, it's business time, it's business time."
Chorus
It’s business, it's business time!
Stan: That’s what you’re trying to say, you’re trying to say lets get down to business it’s business time.
It’s business it’s business time.
George (17 pts, 2 stls): That’s what you're tryin to say, you're tryin to say let's get down to business it's business time!
Tony: Ooh, Next thing you know we’re on the court playing a game, a very important game and we’re pushing the tempo. That's all part of it. That's how we play. Then we open up a 26-15 lead in the 1st quarter where I score 8 points and Stan has 8 as well, that's not part of it but it's still very important. Cause this is about the team. I’m wearing this ugly gold jersey different from our white team uniforms since I didn’t wash mine and I actually was the one who got those white uniforms made (white uniforms in 2006), but I’m playing so good. Mmmhh, our whole team, all 6 of us is playing good. Oh you don't know what you're doing to me. You’re feeding me cause I’m hot and can’t no one guard me, and I even hit a 3 in the 2nd cause I’m feeling so good. Next thing you know we’re up 48-33 at halftime and it looks like we might score 100 points in this game! And you know when we score 48 points in a half what time it is. It's time for business. It's business time.
Chorus It's business, it's business time.
Stan (13 pts, 7 rbs, 8 assts, 5 stls): You know when Courtney comes out its time for business, that’s why they call it a b-ball court.
Quincy: You know when I actually show up this season cause I’ve barely shown up, it’s business time, it’s time for business.
Chorus
Tony (27 pts, 7 rbs): Ooh, makin good plays, makin points for two, playin’ D for two minutes. When we’re scoring the way we are you only need two minutes, cuz the Fury are scoring a lot, but we’re scoring more. We’re shooting over 50%. Two minutes of defense is better then one minute of defense You turn to me and say something like “Is that it?” I know what you’re trying to say, you’re trying to say “Ahh ya that’s it.” Then you tell me you want some more. Well I’m not surprised, But we’re winning by a lot, and even though Ren get 22 points and 5 steals, his 8 turnovers have helped us and we are up 67-46 after three.
Chorus It's business, it's business time.
Stan: Business hours are over, baby. We won 79-58 and advance onto the semifinals. The Fury drop to the loser’s bracket but are still alive.
