| EBC can Finish #1 or #4 Only
APRIL 11, 2006 -- There's only one game left to play, Wildcatz vs EBC this Sunday 4/16, while the remainder of the league awaits the playoffs to start on 4/23. With both the Wildcatz and EBC at 4-2, but EBC's intra-conference rival Game Time at 4-3 with a split in the head-to-head, a lot rides on this game for EBC.
If they win, they finish with the best regular season record outright and the #1 seed heading into the playoffs. If they lose, they are forced into a tiebreaker situation with Game Time, which does not bode well for EBC assuming the strength-of-victory tiebreaker takes hold. With each of the conference winners pegged at #1, #2, and #3, EBC would drop all the way to #4. So in this scenario, the Wildcatz would be #1 outright and #2 would go to Game Time because Game Time holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Driven, which would obviously be at #3 should the Wildcatz beat EBC this Sunday 4/16.
The Wildcatz are virtually assured of a #1 or #2 seed. Even if they lose, EBC would get the #1 seed at 5-2 and since the Wildcatz hold the head-to-head against Western winner Driven, the Wildcatz would get the #2 seed, Driven would get #3, and Game Time would be #4.
This means Driven is stuck with the #3 seed no matter what and will play against #6 Play Hard on 4/23.
Not that it really matters between #3 and #4, seeds which still have to play against #6 and #5, respectively, then play against #2 and #1 as the 2nd part of a doubleheader to advance in the Winners Bracket. This would all be played on 4/23, round one of the playoffs. | Boxscore | Driven - 84 |
