| West Coast Ballaz Pull a George Mason
APRIL 15, 2006 -- The #8 seed West Coast Ballaz instantly became this season's George Mason by knocking off the mighty #1 Five Ten Lite with a buzzer-beater double-clutch in OT from R.J. (hey, West Coast Ballaz, can we please get his first and last name on the scoresheet sometime?).
Meanwhile, Sqad Up sent the Underdawgs to the Losers Bracket while Kurruption and Lifeline held form by taking care of business against their lower-seeded opponents.
This sets up a #5 vs #8 between the West Coast Ballaz and Sqad Up. If the West Coast Ballaz can pull off another upset, they'd be two-thirds of the way towards making it to the one-game championship (remember, you're the champion if you've won four in a row in the playoffs and by the time you reach the championship, the survivor of the Losers Bracket will have already been determined -- it's a one-game do-or-die in the championship if the Winners Bracket survivor only has single-elimination status).
On the other side of the bracket, it's #2 Kurruption vs #3 Lifeline and in the Losers Bracket, it's #1 Five Ten Lite against the #4 Underdawgs.
If you've played in or are currently playing in another multi- geography Dream League season in the past, you're probably used to teams getting re-seeded after Round One. This is done for seasons that involve a double-round robin per conference, so that teams still get a diversity of opponents and when we re-seed, inter-conference matchups are intended.
That's not the case here. All nine teams were from Oakland and we only did a single round robin. We only re-seed in the Losers Bracket as we have done since inception. So in the Winners Bracket, if you get a George Mason vs Wichita State luck-out, more power to you and it makes our playoffs more fun. You overcame the odds. But if you fall to the Losers Bracket, then you've lost all privileges (including homecourt, but homecourt is irrelevant here). | Boxscore | 510 Boyz - 46 |
