2/24 START OF 2008 WINTER/SPRING SEASON | DECEMBER 12, 2007 (5:30PM) -- The schedule has been updated to reflect the play-in #9 vs #8 game on 12/16 and the resulting bracket of 8 to start on 1/6. 12/30 is hereby an official holiday.
NOVEMBER 18, 2007 (8:00AM) -- Game listings on 11/4 thru 11/18 have been updated with actual matchups based on standings. The schedule also reflects that The City has withdrawn from the league.
OCTOBER 4, 2007 (1:30PM) -- Let me know if you do not have 8 regular season games listed on the right.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2007 (8:00AM) -- We have a nice West/East thing going here. In the past and unlike the NL and AL-Elite which are like conglomerates of good players from all over the Bay, the AAA-Elite has traditionally been sort of the demarcation point where geography matters.
Thus, we will do as we have done in years past. We will play 6 regular season games at home within your conference, then play the remaining 2 against an inter-conference opponent (East vs West), whereby the one of the two remaining weeks, you'll be at home. So that leaves you with 1 away game.
For the 6 intra-conference games, in the West we have 5 teams, which means 4 opponents each, which means a repeat matchup against 2 of your intra-conference siblings. In the East, we have 6 teams, which means 5 opponents each, which means one repeat matchup intra-conference. We will base the repeat matchups on standings. But remember that in the West we have an odd number of teams, which means the 2 repeat matchups might need to occur over three weeks. Hopefully I can make it so that the inter-conference matchups happen last, since they would be done by standings and almost serve as a preview to the playoffs. Gets real exciting if we can pull that off.
Then in the playoffs, homecourt goes to the higher seeds. Btw, we have 11 teams, so that means there's a play-in game between #11 vs #6, #10 vs #7, and #9 vs #8. So the top 5 seeds will get a first-round bye. That means there will be 5 rounds of playoffs, 6 if there's a repeat championship. AAA-Elite is certainly transformed into a mini-monster, whereby the AAA-Premier (and AAA-6FT too) is simply an ugly beast, like a umpteen-headed hydra. You gotta slay some dragons to be the last team standing and AAA-Elite is gonna be tougher this season than usual.
One problem we have is that there are an odd number of teams. This means we would have to finish out the last 2 games of the regular season in 3 weeks, otherwise the odd team out has to play a doubleheader. But due to the myriad of bye requests and the handful of games already played 9/16 and 9/23, I might fanagle a way to avoid the doubleheader thing.
NOTES: Done Deal just moved up here from AAA-P. The Bay changed their name to AnyWho.
As explained in the AL-P above, I just had to move Second To None up. They're kind of a 'tweener team in terms of AL vs AAA, but the last thing I wanted was a bunch of AAA teams with no clue how to play against Second To None.
I moved Kurruption up from AAA-P because I was a little concerned the smaller, skinnier players in AAA-P would continue to get beat up by Derek Finney. I also moved up Ballin' after they dominated the AAA-P. They said they would have roster absences in November but I told them that what matters will be January and February. After two straight seasons of nearly running the AAA-P table, I think it's best that they move up here in the AAA-E.
The commish-managed Bobcats are back, but now lack all of their older veteran players. Ivan Camasura is off to high school on the East Coast, so they don't have anyone who plays like Monta Ellis anymore. It will be a pack of young bucks running up and down the court, probably with little post play. However, they will know what to expect in AAA-Elite after a battle deep into the playoffs last season.
The ShotCallers ditched their "cursed" name and are now the Golden Ballers. They have Branden Harrell from Mix, a team that couldn't get enough of their players back. They seem more well-rounded now, although their style is in contrast to the West. They along with Trybe are grind-it-out teams. Trybe combines with the Big Gamerz and returns with a big lineup and newbie guards. Then you've got Kurruption which is known more for half-court pound 'em than fast breaking. The only team in the West expected to play like them is TripleThreat, which is an offshoot of Cha Shu Ballers, which was an offshoot of All out, which were always grind-it-out teams.
The SF Lions seem to be more versatile going small or big, especially with all-star Jon McClain. The SJ Bruddahs are not available except during the summer due to guys in college, so maybe next summer for them. The Bay, the Perpetrators, and Blitzkrieg.
Anticon was really just a rehash of a AAA-P team last season and Hyphy has just disappeared (too bad).
I'll probably split the Eastern Conference into two so that we have three conferences, just like how the NBA is structured. Then top 4 will get top 4 seeds for playoffs, based on standings. |
