THE A.I.'S
1. Mike Reding (Wildcatz, NL) -- Reding is quickly becoming a mainstay here. Awesome performance yet again: 36 points, 8 boards, a dime, a steal, and 2 blocks. Shot 14/30 (47% FG) from the field and 5/14 (36% 3PT) from three.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Over the weekend while Reding was helping the Dream League all-star team win the Gold Rush tournament, Reding reminisced that he had 51 points in an NL game for the Wildcatz during their 2-season repeat championship run a couple years ago. Someday we'll have the means to look this up without clicking a million places on this here website (if someone can go ahead and click on the old seasons to find out, we'd be indebted), but I'm pretty sure it's in fact in our database somewhere. I think that's probably the record for a dreamleague game. Francis Machica scored around 50 one time in a blowout of a Vegas tournament game a few years back and Ryan Mateo came close two seasons ago in an AL game.]
2. Quentin Wu (Syuhn Fung, AL-P) -- Holy cow...seems like Wu likes how his name looks in the AI column. Back again with a monster game: 35 points, 7 boards, and 5 dimes. As is usually the case, his outburst came with an ultra-efficient shooting percentage - 11/17 (65% FG).
3. Jon McClain (SF Lions, AAA-E) -- Lit up the Trybe to the tune of 35 points (15/19, 79% FG), 9 boards, 3 dimes, a steal, and a block. And this was the second game he had that day (see below). Madness.
4. Jon McClain (SF Quakes, AAA-6) -- The Smokin' Aces were singlehandedly dismantled by "Hurricane McClain" (new nickname!). Let's survey the devastation: 32 points on 12/20 (60% FG) shooting. 4/5 on threes...3 boards, 3 dimes, and 2 steals. Someone call FEMA.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: What? "Die Hard" no longer? Say it ain't so!]
5. Stephen N. (TL Bombers, AAA-P) -- 31/8/2 stl/blk...5/8 3PT.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Does "N" stand for "no last name"?]
6. Jolinko Lassiter (PDST, AAA-6) -- 31/7/ast/stl...7/14 from deep and shot 12/22 from the field overall.
7. Vic Jacobs (Big Gamerz, AL-P) -- 31/4...6/8 3PT, 12/20 FG overall.
8. Rob Cuenca (Bomb Squad, AL-E) -- Vinsanity Random Haircut Observation #54: Anyone digging Cuenca's newly shorn hairdo? (maybe he wanted to be more aerodynamic?) Anyways, Cuenca scored 17 by the half en route to 29 (13/22, 59% FG). As always, hit the glass hard, coming up with 12 boards. Also added a dime and 2 steals.
9. Eric ? (Purefoods, AL-P) -- 29/11/3/blk...13/17 from the field and 3/4 from downtown.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Purefoods still hasn't gotten the "last name" memo.]
10. Jeff Park (Gunners, AAA-P) -- 29/5/3...potential Bomber as well since he hit 7/12 (58% 3PT) of his threes.
11. Byron Portades (Bay Function, REC) -- Notched 21 of his 29 by halftime and shot 11/23 (48% FG) from the field and 5/14 (36% 3PT) from the arc. Finished with 29/5/stl.
12. Jason Bendebel (SF Free Agents, REC) -- Racked up 16 by the half en route to his 29 points (12/22, 54% FG). Also added 2 boards, 6 dimes, and 2 steals.
13. Paul Nguyen (BBOF, AAA-6) -- Nguyen seems to be hitting his stride as of late: 28/2/ast/stl...4/10 threes and 10/23 FG overall.
14. Ed Pan (Syuhn Fung, AL-P) -- Not to be outdone by his teammate Wu, Syuhn Fung captain Pan put up 27/5/2/2 on 13/18 (72% FG) shooting. Get this: he went a perfect 11/11 and had 23 of his points by the half.
15. Dante Henderson (MaSarap, AAA-P) -- 27/8/2/stl...hit 5/13 (38% 3PT) of his treys.
16. Joel Sales, Jr. (Hotshots, NL) -- I'm sure he made his Mom proud with this sweet line: 26 points (9/19, 47% FG), 7 boards, 4 dimes, and 4 steals. Is this the first of many more AI's for Jr.? Only time will tell.
17. Sohrab Alem (Rising Stars, AAA-P) -- Alem scored 16 by halftime and finished with 26/14/ast/2 stl. Shot an accurate 12/16 (75% FG).
RODMANESQUE'S
1. Justin Kodama (Run FOB, REC) -- Kodama (aka Golden State of Mind's "Fantasy Junkie") headlines this installment's glasscleaners with an insane 19 caroms to complement his 11 points, 1 dime, and 4 steals.
2. Jon Lee (WSBI, AAA-P) -- 15 points and 15 boards for WSBI's power post presence (check the alliteration!). Random Vinsanity Pondering #8907: What does WSBI stand for? We Should Ball Inside? We Slurp Broth Incessantly?
3. Derek Finney (Kurruption, AL-E) -- Vinsanity Side Note #4699: Is Finney a dead ringer for superproducer Timbaland, or is it just me? It's probably just me. 14/15/2/3.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Vinsanity, you watch too many videos. How the heck do you know what producers look like aside from the staples: Diddy, Kanye, and Babyface? Turn off the MTV.] 4. David Chen (Syuhn Fung, AL-P) -- 8/15/ast/stl/blk.
5. James Chung (SF Free Agents, REC) -- 13/15/2/stl.
6. Thad Ellis (Young'n, AAA-6) -- Thad was a bad man on the hardwood, scoring 9, pulling down 14, and recording 2 dimes, steals, and blocks. Wow.
7. Steve Cibull (Alameda Ballaz, AAA-6) -- The "Be-Goggled One" straight up inhaled boards for the Ballaz: 10/14/ast/stl.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: I think Cibull has ditched the goggles. Haven't seen him wear 'em this season.]
8. Charles Sachkar (ZerOne, AAA-P) -- 6/14/2/2 blk.
9. Jon Lee (MoneyTree Prodigies, AL-E) -- Hmm...I feel like I've seen this guy in this article somewhere. 13 boards, 2 dimes, and 16 points on an efficient 8/10 from the field.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: To make matters worse, there's yet another Jon Lee on his other team WSBI. But you can tell which one is which. This one's the mean-looking one! Look for the square jaw.]
10. Kai Shum (High Life, REC) -- 14/13/4.
SULTANS OF SWAT
1. Marvin Stickel (Purefoods, AL-P) -- Random Vinsanity Fashion Observation #5468: I wonder how many other players in the L rock high socks like Stickal? I'm guessing it helps keep his legs warm for takeoff. 17/13/4/3 blk.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: It's official. His last name is spelled "Stickel". No, I know this not because of the scoresheet. It's because of the roster slot check he left behind. I guess I'd rather have checks paid than scoresheets with last names.]
2. Josh Caraballo (Hotshots, NL) -- 14/9/2/stl/3 blk.
3. Calvin Ma (Aball, AAA-P) -- Ma oh Ma: 19/6/ast/stl/3 blk.
4. Joe Cheah (Young Gunners, AAA-P) -- Cheah scored 11, grabbed 8 boards, and rejected 3.
5. George Norris (Ballaticians, AAA-P) -- George Norris deflects shots just by glaring at them. 6/8/3 blk.
6. Mike Glass (RODM, AAA-V) -- Vinsanity Random Note #463: Yo, I've heard this dude is 6-7 or something. Can anyone confirm? If so, he should be awarded 2 blocks just by setting foot on the court. Also, if true, he'd probably be the tallest dude to ever play in the DL huh? 12/9/3/2 blk.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Glass is easily 6'7", but his offensive game is like, well, glass. Alright, I couldn't resist that one and I'm sure I'll get swatted 10 times next time the Poorcats play the DrunkenM's for saying that. Nevertheless he is a difficult tree to deal with in the AAA-V. Don't know if he's the tallest ever, but currently he's the tallest. John Tofi has played in dreamleague before with a cameo here and there in the early days, and I think he was around that tall. Glass is definitely the tallest "regular".]
THE CHEFS
1. Gareth Lee (Got-Em, AAA-P) -- 22/1/7/stl. Qualified for the Bombers list as well, sinking 6 of 13 (46% 3PT) from the arc.
2. Chris Liclican (SF Lions, AAA-E) -- It was just a matter of time 'till the Lions heady floor general made his mark on this list. "Lic" (as he's known among his Lions brethren) scored 7, grabbed 5 boards, distributed 7 dimes, and had 2 steals versus a scrappy Trybe backcourt.
3. AJ Chen (Triple Threat, AAA-E) -- Kept bricking (1/9), but kept dishing to make up for it: 2/3/7/stl.
4. Joven Baltazar (BBOF, AAA-6) -- The crafty combo guard scored 7, pulled down 4 rebounds, dished out 6 dimes and added a steal for good measure.
5. Vic Jacobs (Trybe, AAA-E) -- Vinsanity Ridiculous NBA Comparison #789: Doesn't Jacobs look (and play) a bit like Tyronne Lue? Or is it just me (as always, it probably is). 16 points, a board, 5 dishes, and a steal for the Trybe's young phenom.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: I would have to disagree. Lue is pretty rocked for a guy 5'6". Vic is pretty skinny, still yet to fill out (maybe). And Lue is definitely way more light-skinned than Jacobs, haha!]
JKIDD-STERS
1. Taraz Lee (Wildcatz, NL) -- Missed a trip-dub by a point! 9/12/10/3 blk.
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Let me recount the stats. You never know, sometimes things can be off by as little as 1 point.]
2. Dave Mendoza (Kurruption, AL-P) -- 11/8/6.
3. Osibisa Roseby (Team Dynasty, AL-P) -- Roseby is surely going to run the point for my All-Name Squad: 7 points, 8 boards, 7 dimes, and 2 steals.
4. Thomas Chu (Phenomenal Swag, AAA-P) -- 15/5/6/stl.
5. Cam Brokaw (Gunners, AAA-P) -- 7/11/5/stl/blk. Shot an ugly 3/13 though.
6. Brian Deguzman (IITWI, AAA-6) -- 7/6/6.
BOMBERS
1. Dean Takemoto (Phenomenal Swag, AAA-P) -- 24/7/2. Takemoto was thisclose to being bumped up to the AI's: 24/7/2, 6/12 on threes.
2. Ryan Dang (RODM, AAA-V) -- 22/2/6/4...6/10 from dooooowntooooown.
3. Daryl Rusgal (ZerOne, AAA-P) -- 23/5/3/2/blk...5/10 on threes.
4. Fouad Elian (BBOF, AAA-6) -- 21/7/2/2. 5 made threes.
5. Khuong Luu (Das Boot, AAA-V) -- Took a week off from this list, but earned a spot again with his 5 made threes (5/11, 45% 3PT). 17/6/ast/2.
6. Ryan Figueroa (Team Dynasty, AL-P) -- Sunk 4/9 (44% 3PT) en route to 21/2/2/2/blk...
7. Rod Campbell (Team Dynasty, AL-P) -- ...not to be outdone by Figueroa, Uncle Rod stroked 4/11 threes (36% 3PT), scoring 21 points. Grabbed 13 boards and added 2 dimes and a block.
8. Paul Hu (Aball, AAA-P) -- 24/6/stl...4/6 3PT and 9/17 FG overall.
9. John Kim (Young'n, AAA-6) -- 20/5/ast/2 (4/10, 40% 3PT).
10. Brian Uyeda (Ballaz By Law, AL-P) -- 19/8/ast/blk...4 made threes.
11. Sean Rivera (Technics, REC) -- 16/7/2 blk...4 made threes.
BRICKLAYERS
1. David Paniagua (Run FOB, REC) -- 0 for 11!!! Yikes! Did have 7 boards, a dime, and 3 steals though so not all negative.
2. Angelo Munagorri (Hotshots, NL) -- 1 for 13 (0.08% FG). Certainly not his best day.
3. Michael Yuen (Mad Cow, AAA-P) -- Did Yuen's shooting woes (2/12, 17% FG) contribute to Mad Cow's 26 point drubbing by the Chopsticks? 6/5/ast/2 stl.
4. Amado Rivera (Kurruption, AL-P) -- Kept shooting (and shooting...and shooting): 6/2/stl/blk, 3/13 (23% FG).
5. Felix Wong (Phenomenal Swag, AAA-P) -- 8/4/3/2/blk...on 3/12 (25% FG) shooting.
6. Curtis Sasaki (High Life, REC) -- 11/5/ast, but jacked 'em up: 4/16 (25% FG).
7. Jeremy Silan (Das Boot, AAA-V) -- 8/reb/stl/blk...4/15 (26% FG) from the field.
8. Tim Johnson (123 Not It, REC) -- 6 points and 9 boards but shot 3/11 (27% FG).
9. Sean Caiola (MoneyTree Prodigies, AL-E) -- 10/4/ast/stl but had a shooting day to forget: 4/14 (29% FG).
10. Rome Olimpiada (Bomb Squad, AL-E) -- Good numbers on the surface (22/5/2/2), but like fellow bomber Caiola, didn't have his shooting stroke going (7/23, 30% FG).
11. Francis Diaz (Kurruption, AL-P) -- And I thought his teammate Rivera didn't have a conscience. Diaz had 19/8/2/3 but only made 9 out of a whopping 29 attempts (31% FG).
WHO CAN STOP THIS MAN?
The AAA-E SF Lions' power guard/strong forward (whatever!) was a one-man wrecking crew on Sunday as evidenced by the fact that he made the AI's list...twice. Check his cumulative totals for the day: 67 points (27/39, 69% FG...4/5 threes), 12 boards, 8 dimes, and 2 steals. He'd hate the comparison since he's a staunch Lakers detractor, but his play was simply Kobe-esque (sorry Jon!).
[EDITOR'S BLASPHEMOUS COMMENTS: Uhhh, Vinsanity, I think you just committed a sacrilege by mentioning Golden State of Mind and the Lakers in the same write-up. How dare you. That's it, you're fired! No, no, I was just kidding. Please don't go. We love you, man.
Really though, there's got to be a better comparison for Mr. DIE HARD (note the lack of references to tropical storms) than Kobe. Send suggestions to vince@dreamleague.org.]
