SEPTEMBER 5, 2007 (8:00AM) -- So here's how it works. We seed all the 8 teams that played on Friday and Saturday, then add 2 more teams (dreamleague All-Stars and Arizona Desert Jade) to the mix. We rank all 10 by their records and include the dreamleague All-Stars' and Arizona's performances. The tiebreakers will be head-to-head followed by point differential, with all point differentials capped at 20 maximum (i.e., a 40-point loss is the same as a 20-point loss).
However, there's one big caveat. This is one thing that is unique to all dreamleague tourneys: I don't like to repeat matchups that were from pool play, in the first round of the playoffs. There are so many other teams out there to play against, so why nullify the result of the first meeting at such an early juncture?
So, even though tradition holds that #1 plays against #8 and so on (just like the brackets in the NCAA), I might tweak it a bit if we've seen the matchup already on Friday and Saturday. For example, in last week's 6FT tournament, in the playoff bracket instead of #5 vs #12 and so on, I had #6 vs #12 and #7 vs #9 and #8 vs #10, just as examples. High seeds still played against low seeds. The method has been working for the past 3 years and pretty much all teams walk away happy with the number of different teams they played against, as well as fairness of the seedings on Sunday...
