APRIL 19, 2006 -- Tipoffs for 4/23 will be posted by tomorrow morning. Here are some Round 1 previews and tipoff timeframes:
#5 RGXI at #4 GmTm (morning): It's all about who shows up for RGXI -- everyone shows up, then they have a fighting chance as their 1-point buzzer-beater by Seve Nocon against GmTm a few weeks ago shows...GmTm could have trouble again Rayguns anchor down low Andre Lockett, but the guard-oriented GmTm poses some defensive issues for Lockett on the other side...Mike Kraus needs to be making shots for GmTm, otherwise they sometimes go into a funk...Great matchup at point between Nocon and Ryan Mateo versus Jameel Uddeen and Johnny Liu. Winner-RGXI/GmTm at #1 EBC (midday): Game will be played at Potrero...EBC has been clicking of late with Huy Nguyen stepping up to be the go-to guy late in the game...sf Ross Lim not at 100%. #6 PHII at #3 Drvn (morning): PHII still having some chemistry issues, will they finally break out of it now?...PHII's slower front court might have some problems with the shifty Sunny Margate and the speed of Ryan Cruz...PHII may just have to play zone and hope to contain Driven's shooting guard, while changing philosophies and going inside-out with Yih-Wei Chien and Carlos Gacula or Jay Pattugalan for things to turn around. Winner-PHII/Drvn at #2 Catz (afternoon or evening): Game will either be at Sequoia HS (Redwood City) in the afternoon or CSM in the evening...Catz haven't had a full roster for the last few weeks, we'll see if any chemistry is affected...Jeremy Brady forces the action, James Chuong and Mike Reding knock in threes, Will Wagner locks down the post and Teraz Lee does everything else, but the real unsung hero might be Gary Chern, who always seems to knock down a critical jumper or grab a sky rebound at the most opportune time. |
