Gotham Games 2009 New York

DEC 19-20, 2009

Is this our 4th year already? Is it just us or does 4 years fly by like a one-hit wonder on the Top-40 station?

4 years is a high school career (unless you’re Doogie Howser, MD.) 4 years is how many years Greg Oden should have stayed at Ohio State. However you look at it, 4 years goes back like that. In 3 more, Obama will be up for re-election already.

Any way you look at it, our 4th Annual Gotham City Games are descending upon us already and, as promised, here’s an update for you hoopologists (took that term from all these Gotham bartenders calling themselves mixologists, which is, um, lame – sorry if anyone’s offended by that):

When: Saturday December 19 & Sunday December 20.

Where: TBD, but likely really in Gotham City this year. In years past, we’ve gone places like New Jersey and Hillburn, NY. They’re all part of the Tri-State area, and to any Californians, it’s close enough to make it feel like New Yawk, but we’re working hard on keeping it within the confines of the boroughs this year – that means Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, or Staten Island. Wait, what about the Bronx? What do we have against the Bronx? Nothing. Love the Bronx. They have the Yankees and stuff, but our relations in the Bronx don’t run deep. We’ll work on that too and you Bay Area people work on hosting a tourney in Monterey or Salinas or something for us next time.

Who: Any and all Elite-level pan Asian-American teams from around the way. We are already garnering a healthy amount of interest from IndoPak circuit teams from around the country. Several Cali squads are rumored to be interested in coming this time. We hope with this much lead time, you guys can really get it straight, book stuff, and make it happen!

Cost: And we’re talking about everything here, especially for those coming from far and wide. They tourney entry fee is still TBD, but expect it to be in the neighborhood of year’s past.

- Flights – ya’d better get on those quick West Coasters!
- Hotels – Will suggest spots, but you may want to do a scan of Craigslist even for apt weekend rentals. Ya never know.
- Transportation – Just get your butts into NYC from the airport. Hopefully there will not be rental cars necessary if we can keep this all within NYC (though Staten Island might be tricky.) You’ll have to learn the subway system. It may be more complex than a 3-2 amoeba zone, but that’s half the fun of experiencing NYC!

That’s a quick and dirty look at it right now. More updates to follow as we solidify details. Please drop us a line at nycgothamgames@gmail.com in order to save a spot in the tournament. There is a ceiling of 12 teams, so make sure you save it soon. Don’t wait, like, you know, 4 years. It could go quick.

Pre-register your team by selecting "NYC Gotham Games 2009" on the REGISTRATION page. Lines are now open for guaranteeing your slot by paying the registration fee. The only way to absolutely guarantee your team will have a slot saved is by paying upfront. And the easiest way to do this is via credit card online. We are limiting the field to 12 teams so not every one of this list will necessarily make the field, so reserve soon!

The entry fee will be $475 + $13.88 transaction fee for both Google Checkout (sorry, but we have to pass that onto the teams) or through PayPal.

If you prefer to PayPal - please direct payment to: brian@dreamleague.org.

If you are adamant about saving on the processing fee, you may mail a check made payable to Dream League of New York in the amount of $475, but that must be received no later than 12.12.09 at the following address:
